Inside Kimmy's Mind » Meeting His Parents

Meeting His Parents

I was so nervous, but I finally had the chance to meet Matt’s parents a couple weekends ago. Matt, calm as usual, kept telling me I had nothing to worry about. And he was right, I had nothing to worry about. They all made me feel very welcomed.

I went with Matt to pick up his parents from the airport.( First time near an airport) That’s right, I’ve never been on a plan. Hopefully, I’ll change that this year. Anyway, we waited for them and then they came and greeted me with open arms. We had dinner at Star Pizza and just talked and laughed. They were so great and reminded me of my parents. His dad would make some jokes, again, reminding me of my own dad. Then we ended the night with some ice cream ( I had Cream Soda- and I’ve been craving it ever since).

The next morning, I drove to Matt’s place where the four of us walked to Biscuit Junkie for breakfast. I had avocado on poached eggs and biscuits. It was pretty yummy. And from there we headed off to Galveston to meet up with more of his family. I met his uncle and cousins, and his grandparents. Again, I was welcomed with open arms and was treated as part of the family. It was lovely. His uncle rented a house on the water and it was gorgeous. I haven’t been to Galveston in years so I was quite surprised. I was reminded that Moody Gardens is in Galveston and now it’s definitely on my list of things to do this year. I think the last time I visited was during a school field trip back in the 8th grade…if I remember correctly. Disney World is still a huge thing I would like to do this year, I’m told before Christmas is the best time to go, and Matt just so happens to be from Florida so a visit there and a visit to his parents would be lovely. I’m just so happy that meeting them went well. It’s interesting to meet the people responsible for the person I love. He resembles both parents, having more of his mother’s features with a dash of his father’s and his added mannerisms. But Matt is much more mellow than his father. But Matt is pretty much more mellow than anyone really.  I haven’t had a chance to meet his younger brother yet, but hopefully I’ll be able to do so soon.

When we finally go to the beach house, we talked and colored with his cousins, then ate some burgers and just enjoyed the view on the water. We played some ping pong, and watched a movie, and then his father wanted to take photos of the sunset. We said our goodbyes and made plans to have dinner the next night. I also offered them museum tickets since they were coming into Houston for the day. We had dinner at Goode Company’s BBQ, and then I suggested we walk around Rice Village so his cousins could do some shopping while his parent’s joined us at Half Price. We later all met up at this crepe shop and had coffee and dessert. It was a great evening and I’m so glad that he introduced me to them. I look forward to spending time with them again.

I hope you are having a great week, and I hope your weekend is filled with fun. If you’re worrying about something, my advice to you is, worry not. Don’t over worry and just do your best in whatever it is. You’re probably like me and worrying for no reason. Just smile, eat some yummy food and blog on. <3

Thanks for reading.

    @Jane, Thanks so much!
And no problem, I think we all need little reminders to remember to relax.
    Have a great week!

Aw, I’m thrilled you got to meet Matt’s parents! 🙂 I got to meet some more of Nick’s family recently and it was nice to be welcomed. I mean, we’re already getting married, but it’s usually better to meet the family before the wedding haha. And knowing who has brought up your partner and getting to know them (especially when they are nice people!) is beautiful. ❤️

I am really liking the look of those strawberries in the photo! 😉

I’m not surprised that you haven’t been on a plane, as I have a friend who hadn’t been until he was in his twenties. You will have to plan some exciting trips for sure. ?

@Georgie, Definitely better to get along with the family. My family is such a big part of my life and having him get along with mine and me get along with his just makes me happy.

And those strawberries were very tasty, when I took that photo, his parents were waiting to eat so that I could take a photo of their food too. But I was embarrassed and the photo of all of our plates didn’t come out. >.< But the fact that they waited for me to snap a photo was too cute. Planning a trip to Florida to visit Matt's family for Thanksgiving. 🙂 I'm excited!

Great to hear that meeting the parents went well! I haven’t met my bf’s mom yet (and vice versa) so I’ll probably be nervous about that when the time comes haha…though I’m looking forward to it regardless 🙂

@Melanie, I was so nervous too! But what I didn’t realize, which is really obvious, is that Matt would talk about me to them so they had heard all of these things about me and would see photos of our dates that I would post. The point is, your S.O. finds you special so their family will see that.

Being nervous is normal though. I didn’t relax until finally meeting them. XD

It will go great! No worries! <3

I have a love/hate relationship with planes. But I’m glad to hear you had a lovely time with Matt and his parents, and meeting them went well! :3

I hope you’re having a lovely week too, Kimmy!

@Eena, That’s how I figured most people would view planes and the airport. My first plane ride will be when Matt and I head to Florida. In the first stages of planning right now, so nothing has been decided but we discussed it a little. Can’t wait to make actual concrete plans though.

    And thanks so much!

I’m glad that meeting Matt’s parents and family went so well! That’s great that they were so welcoming towards you 😀 I always hear horror stories of people’s in-laws, so that’s definitely a good thing that his family is so nice, haha.

Oh man, I forgot about Moody Gardens. I don’t think I’ve been there since I was in middle school either!

@Cat, I hear the horror stories too! That’s why I was nervous. But I was so happy that we were able to get along and that we were able to spend as much time with them as we could. His parents live out of state and he only gets to see his other family members once in awhile so hanging out with them was lovely.

Definitely want to make a trip to Moody Gardens soon. I forgot all about it. XD

Glad to hear meeting Matt’s family went well. It’s always nerve-wracking! It’s great that they treated you so well. At least you’ll know not to worry next time!

The first time I met Andy’s parents I was so nervous! They live about an hour away so I had to stay at their house for a week, when I’d only just met them so I was terrified. Luckily it all went okay though, and all the little things didn’t matter so much.

I’ve never been on a plane either. My mum hates flying so all our holidays were within driving distance!

@Amy, Thanks! Wow, for a week?! I’m glad it went well though. I’d be nervous about that too. But it’s a great feeling when you’re able to get along.

And same here, family holidays were either always at home or somewhere we could drive. I hope to start traveling more when I can. 🙂
