~Traveling: Another Day of BBQ~

This weekend I went with Matt and his friends for another day trip to Lockhart, TX. We hit the exact same BBQ places we did last time, only a different order.

  1. Kreuz Market
  2. Black’s
  3. Smitty’s Market

We had ate the most at Kreuz, the photo above might looks like a mess, but that’s how they serve the BBQ. You request how much you want of each meat and they serve it on sheets of paper. Being the second time I’ve joined in, I now know the way to handle this  for the next time. Always eat at Smitty’s. It’s the best out of the three. We had brisket, turkey, and sausage at Kreuz then had sides at Black’s. Potato salad and banana pudding. When it finally came to Smitty’s, we only had a bite. Not a huge mistake because I was worried I would over do it but I under did it…next time always get Smitty’s.

I also forgot to take more photos of each place, and I did record a clip, but when I was checking my phone I noticed the clip wasn’t there. -.- Not sure, but I guess I either deleted it or forgot to record and only thought I did. I know I don’t have to document everything that happens in my life in order to recall it. These moments with Matt, are not easily forgotten. And I look back at my first post about Lockhart and how we had just started dating. It wasn’t so long ago, but yet it was? I’ll end this post by saying…

“-I’m looking forward to continue getting to know him and spending time with him as often as I can.”

~Travel~ Sister’s Bday Weekend

Last weekend my sisters, mom, and I went on a trip to Austin for my younger sister’s 24th birthday. She works at a hotel and she get’s mega discounts so she got us a room in a beautiful hotel in downtown Austin.

Two queen sized beds with the most comfortable bedding ever! This 4 day weekend was the perfect time for our little trip. I got off early on Friday and then Kat and I headed to Mija’s place to pack up in her car. (GPS and whatnot) We got to Austin late, so we had a burger at IN-an-Out and then headed to the hotel room.

We woke up early  and started off our day by, of course, going to Modcloth! And this time I tried on more clothes and….even bought something! I bought my first Modcloth dress and I’m hooked. I sort of wish I bought dress #2 that I also liked, but Modcloth is pricey. Even with the discounts, due to Memorial Day weekend, 15% off everything…20% off of things over $100, plush FREE shipping due to ordering in the store.

I loved wearing these dresses, but it was hard to choose between the two of them. They were the same priced and they both had pockets. POCKETS! We all know that makes a dress better. The yellow one was a bit tight fitting, had I eaten a meal, it would have been too tight for comfort. But the larger size was too big on the top. I’m in between sizes…so if they could have something in between a medium and a large…that would be great. Oh well, it also depends on the dress. Because the one I did buy was a medium and it was a perfect fit. Not too tight, not too loose. They made me feel pretty. Another reason I didn’t buy the elephant dress, was even though the print was pretty, I don’t think it was very “me”. I’d probably pair it with a different color cardigan. I may purchase it in the future… hopefully when it’s on sale. Or perhaps they will have the same style of dress in a different print that is more me.

We stayed in downtown for the entire weekend, walking everywhere! We even made the walk to Book People, a cool book store located not too far away, but in the Texas heat it was a bit taxing. Plus, we had to make the walk back to our hotel so we were pretty tired after that. We made our way back to the hotel to cool down and just relax a bit.

It was a lot of fun spending time with my sisters and mother, our schedules are so different that we don’t always get to see each other. I hope Kat had a great bday weekend, I was happy we got to spend that weekend with her.  That’s all for now…until next time. 🙂

Meeting His Parents

I was so nervous, but I finally had the chance to meet Matt’s parents a couple weekends ago. Matt, calm as usual, kept telling me I had nothing to worry about. And he was right, I had nothing to worry about. They all made me feel very welcomed.

I went with Matt to pick up his parents from the airport.( First time near an airport) That’s right, I’ve never been on a plan. Hopefully, I’ll change that this year. Anyway, we waited for them and then they came and greeted me with open arms. We had dinner at Star Pizza and just talked and laughed. They were so great and reminded me of my parents. His dad would make some jokes, again, reminding me of my own dad. Then we ended the night with some ice cream ( I had Cream Soda- and I’ve been craving it ever since).

The next morning, I drove to Matt’s place where the four of us walked to Biscuit Junkie for breakfast. I had avocado on poached eggs and biscuits. It was pretty yummy. And from there we headed off to Galveston to meet up with more of his family. I met his uncle and cousins, and his grandparents. Again, I was welcomed with open arms and was treated as part of the family. It was lovely. His uncle rented a house on the water and it was gorgeous. I haven’t been to Galveston in years so I was quite surprised. I was reminded that Moody Gardens is in Galveston and now it’s definitely on my list of things to do this year. I think the last time I visited was during a school field trip back in the 8th grade…if I remember correctly. Disney World is still a huge thing I would like to do this year, I’m told before Christmas is the best time to go, and Matt just so happens to be from Florida so a visit there and a visit to his parents would be lovely. I’m just so happy that meeting them went well. It’s interesting to meet the people responsible for the person I love. He resembles both parents, having more of his mother’s features with a dash of his father’s and his added mannerisms. But Matt is much more mellow than his father. But Matt is pretty much more mellow than anyone really.  I haven’t had a chance to meet his younger brother yet, but hopefully I’ll be able to do so soon.

When we finally go to the beach house, we talked and colored with his cousins, then ate some burgers and just enjoyed the view on the water. We played some ping pong, and watched a movie, and then his father wanted to take photos of the sunset. We said our goodbyes and made plans to have dinner the next night. I also offered them museum tickets since they were coming into Houston for the day. We had dinner at Goode Company’s BBQ, and then I suggested we walk around Rice Village so his cousins could do some shopping while his parent’s joined us at Half Price. We later all met up at this crepe shop and had coffee and dessert. It was a great evening and I’m so glad that he introduced me to them. I look forward to spending time with them again.

I hope you are having a great week, and I hope your weekend is filled with fun. If you’re worrying about something, my advice to you is, worry not. Don’t over worry and just do your best in whatever it is. You’re probably like me and worrying for no reason. Just smile, eat some yummy food and blog on. <3

Weekends with You ?

This past weekend was wonderful.

For the three day weekend, I spent it over at Matt’s. Now, this isn’t the first time but I’m typically a homebody and enjoy being lazy, watching movies,  or knitting…you get it. But my weekends with him are always just so wonderful. So here’s a breakdown on our weekend:

  • Friday: We went to a pre release for the new Magic cards at Asgard Games, ran into some friends there and I played one round. I’m not really that great at the game, but it’s fun.
  • Saturday: We hung out with Matt’s friends for a bit, and enjoyed some yummy food and dessert. We also started watching the Netflix Original: A Series of Unfortunate Events. Loved the books, so I was looking forward to reading the books.
  • Sunday: We woke up early, but didn’t really do anything until mid day. (Matt was also starting to get sick…which surprise surprise, I now have what he had/has)He was feeling up for getting out of the apartment so we decided to go to The Mad Potter to do some painting. He painted a mug and I painted a soup bowl. I forgot to take any before photos though. Very unlike me. Sadly, we have to wait until next week to pick up our master pieces because we won’t be here on Friday. I’m excited to see how they turn out. I might have put too much pressure on it, but luckily Matt was there to remind me that this was for fun. And it was a lot fun, when I suggested we go paint mugs, I didn’t think he would actually go with it.  Not because he wouldn’t want to, but because it was just so spur of the moment. And because of that we sort of ran out of time but I’m excited to see how they came out. Matt painted a mug, splitting it down the middle, one side with his white kitty Eve and the other side with his black kitty Marco. It’s pretty adorable. and I painted a mint bowl with white orchids. After that we went to Barnes and Noble where we picked up two new Magic decks and a copy of Stardust by  Neil Gaiman. We ended our night out with dinner at Sushi Choo Choo.
  • Monday: Matt woke up feeling really bad, so I went and got him some medicine and cooked him some eggs. We spent the day watching movies and didn’t leave the apartment at all. We had our lunch and dinner delivered to us via Ubereats. Amazing! I’ve never used Uber before, but using it to bring food? So convenient and totally helps me maintain my hermit like behavior. The night ended with some reading and cuddles.

Such a great weekend, I hope my cold doesn’t last too long though. We have another wonderful weekend planned and I don’t want my boogers to ruin that. We have a trip planned, more on that next time. 🙂 How was your weekend?

~A Short Dating Update~

For me, online dating was nothing I thought I’d take seriously, I figured I would be on it for a few weeks at the most. There’s this anonymity that allows the users to just appear and disappear without really creating waves in a person’s life. It was a strange concept…still is for me.

(Side note: I realized since starting this blog that I’ve always updated at least once a month so it’s pretty bizarre that I didn’t update AT ALL in October.) Part of that reason has been, I’ve been pretty busy. Life! Work, family….dating. And I haven’t been on the app because I’ve been well…dating. Like I’ve mentioned before, I can’t make a connection with more than one person so I’ve devoted my time to see one person. Many opinions, like those of my friends, might say…”You’re doing it wrong.”

But this is what works for me and I’m pretty happy with how things are currently going. I could go into further detail into the unbelievably cute things this person does that has me smitten but I shall keep them to myself…for now. :3

I know relationships take time to build, and I’m not the type to sacrifice what I hope to have when in a relationship. I want the whole package and I’m not doing this to simply BE in a relationship. I want the right person. I’m already a very happy person on my own, so now I want a person who adds to that in a way that does not take away from my identity as my own person. Isn’t that what everyone hopes to find? Something that works.

That’s all for now, I’ll update again soon. Just know that I’m happy and I hope you are also happy.

Blogging for Books~KoreaTown

IMG_2031

Normally, cookbooks are not on my list of books to browse through when I go into a bookstore…unless I’m just looking at pictures. I struggle with following recipes because I am a very impatient person and tend to get a head of myself. But my sister, Kat, is a chef and she is fascinated with Korean cuisine. I figured I would get a cookbook for her and because this one seemed interesting, plus, I LOVE food!

Koreatown by chef Deuki Hong and writer Matt Rodbard

I may not be a chef but this book is beautifully made, and it offers the reader a look into Korean culture when it comes to the food. The cover jumped out at me, it’s texture is smooth with the title embossed. I love when books have an added texture to it.  I’m not quite sure what type of paper was used, but it’s smooth and soft without having a gloss to it even though it looks glossy. It’s wonderful.

The book is separated into different sections and offers the reader interviews and tips when it comes to recreating different Korean dishes. It’s filled with gorgeous photography that captured moments of food bliss and if they don’t make your mouth water, I don’t know what will My favorite thing about cook books, when I look at one, is how the pictures look. I like to know how the dish I’m preparing is supposed to look. Especially, if it’s from a specific type of cuisine.

IMG_2032

The layout of the recipes are displayed with your ingredients on either the left or right side of the page in a column. It shows you exactly what you will be needing and the amount of each ingredient. Each recipe gives advice on the ingredients you will be using, such as what to keep in mind when choosing the type of vegetable..ect. Very helpful, for people like me, who know nothing about produce…or anything involving food. Aside from eating it.

I’ve already flagged all of the recipes I want to try first, so here’s hoping the roomie will assist in the actually making of the dish. But for those of you who lack having access to an actual chef worry not, the book lays out the instructions in an easy to follow manner. I believe even I could follow it.

*I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.

Double Date

My sister and I have always wanted to go on a double date, but we’ve never been in relationships at the same time so we haven’t had that opportunity yet. However, we did manage to go on a double date the other day with Cloudy Chase and her sister. XD That’s right a sister double date!

sisterdatesnacks

It was a lot of fun! I had Melissa and her sister Michelle meet us at the science museum. I figured it would be a nice treat to show them around my work place at the museum.  I can get people in for free as long as they are with me and my majorly important work badge. :3 I finally got to see the Egypt exhibit, it was a lot bigger than I thought, and there were several mummies. Did you know their coffins were made of wood? I thought they were made of clay or something.  I didn’t take as many pictures has I had hope. But that always happens when I’m trying to make memories that doesn’t involve me looking at it from my cell screen. But I did manage to take several with my disposable camera. I’m looking forward to getting it developed. I can’t wait to see how the pictures look, I’m loving this feeling because its the same I felt when I used it back when I was a kid. I have my fuji instax that I should use, but that always has flash so I have yet to figure out how to take nice pictures with it.

Good Vibes

So last week was definitely a brighter one, and I’m so glad to have people in my life that make the difficult times more endurable and the fantastic times more well….fantastic. :3

First off, I should warn you that this entry will be filled with lots of pictures…I just want to share them all instead of posting them in more than one entry. >.< I had my interview at the Science Museum on Wednesday, and it went GREAT! The ladies I interviewed with were just wonderful. They gave me stickers to walk around the museum for free, while I was instagraming some dino bones they found me and asked me to fill out a background check information sheet. They said they couldn’t wait and wanted to start the hiring process…however, anything could happen so I don’t want to jinx it just yet. But I’m really excited about working in a museum. After walking around for a bit more I called all my family to tell them how well it went. I know, a bit premature but I was just so excited. Anyway, I headed home to get ready for my night out with Melissa and Kat. We had plans to go out for some tiramisu and then after that to an evening of great music at the House of Blues. Melissa introduced us to the band Merriment and Eisley and invited us to the concert. I’m so glad she did, because it was just wonderful.

A Delightful Day

Today was my off day, I had planned to go out grocery shopping and actually buy some mailing envelopes so I could mail off some packages!!! >.< I’m such a bad penpal! I promise I’ll get it done on Friday, that’s my next day off. But instead I spent this lovely day taking pictures and eating delectable sweets with Kat.

She had been wanting me to go with her to visit this dessert shop called, Dolce Delights, and since I had mentioned macarons in my last post I was in the mood to try some more. I love seeing/tasting the different flavors that each shop makes. They are definitely tricky to make, Kat and I tried awhile back to make them, hopefully we try again. Anyway, these macarons were $1.75 I believe, and that’s the cheapest I’ve seen here in Houston. So I went a little crazy and bought 7…plus a vanilla frappe. >.< So I indulged a little, it was totally worth it. I think my favorite was either the chocolate mint or the strawberry. They were all very yummy and I hope to try more flavors next time I go. It’s not something I can do very often, but I plan on going again. Today was really windy, but it felt amazing outside. It was absolutely gorgeous I hope this weekend is just a nice. I still need tdolceo go grocery shopping and would love it if it didn’t rain. Anyway, continuing on with my day, after eating sweets Kat and I went to High Fashion Fabrics and I found some pleather. I’ve been wanting to buy some and make some folded clutches with them. But the pleather there ranged from 14.99 to 22 bucks, so sadly I will have to wait a bit until I can practice making things. I got some extra hours this spring break so hopefully I can use some of that money for Mind-Speak things. The fabric store had a lot of nice fabric but we didn’t stay very long, I only wanted to see if they stocked pleather and didn’t want to get distracted by other things. But I plan on making some cute pleated aprons for my sisters and me. I want to try embroidering names or the word Mind-Speaks on it. I also want to try some picture transfers to fabric instead of buying iron on sheets. So need to research some fabric transfer tutorials.

outfit3-12-14

I couldn’t decide which pictures to share in this entry, Kat and I took a lot….and I mean A LOT today. I also shared today’s outfit on the modcloth style gallery. The other look got 103 likes. >.< I love styling my outfits, and I’ve styled this one before, but tried something different this time. Layered it with my salmon? Coralish cardigan this time instead of my cream quarter sleeved one. And this belt is my new favorite accessory, it goes with most of my dresses since I wear a lot of cream and mint. That’s all for now…until next time.

Une Soirée de Musique

Spring break doesn’t start until Monday but it’s now the weekend so I am officially on break! Aside from having to work still…and study. :/

new-friendsSo Thursday I had the chance to hang out with Cloudy Chase again, she and I had made plans to go to this event at a bar called Mongoose vs Cobra. But thanks to some lovely unforeseen changes we ate dinner at my place, made by my sister Kat, and then went out for some crepes at Sweet Pairs. I had such a wonderful time, and can’t wait to do it again. :3  Continuing on with the rest of the week, yesterday I went to a free concert at Discovery Green with the Boyfriend and his roommate. We arrived a bit late, but we managed to hear and see a bit, unfortunately the night ended on a sad note.It started off great, we listened to the last set of the French band La Femme, they were actually pretty good, and I bought macaroons for us. There were a few tents up that hosted different French cuisine. Sweet Pairs was there, which is where Kat works so that’s how I found out about the event. Those tasty macaroons are so expensive yet so yummy. Unfortunately when I was trying to share mine with the bf I ended up dropping them both. -.- I’m such a klutz, all we could do was laugh it off. They were from a place called Bite Macarons, a shop located here in Houston. I didn’t even take any pictures, bad blogger! >.< I was in such a hurry to eat them, I bought a chocolate, vanilla and a black currant. Mine was the chocolate and a dog ended up eating the piece that fell. I felt horrible, what if the dog got sick because of my clumsiness? I worried about the ewok dog for the rest of the evening.  The bf kept reassuring me that he would be fine, I told the owner I saw his dog eat something, just wasn’t sure what it was. >.< Hope he’s ok, dogs can get really sick if they consume chocolate. Went there for some cultured fun, ended up trying to poison someone’s dog. Moving on, after the concert we went out to eat at BB’s Cafe, I’m extremely picky when it comes to seafood. I only trust, my dad’s cooking. So once in front of the menu I was really scared, there weren’t any safe options. I sided with chicken tenders from the kids menus, it was already late and I know my stomach, it would have not ended well. On our way home, bf’s roommate got a call, his mother had an accident. It was a horrible way to end such a fun night and I hope his mother is doing well, I have yet to receive any news.

I’m off to finish up some Bio homework, enjoy your weekend. Here’s the full album of La Femme, give it a listen and let me know what you think. :3 Until next time….À bientôt!
