Inside Kimmy's Mind » Whaaa?!

Whaaa?!

Exes….most of us have a few here and there buried somewhere in our past that occasionally cross our minds for whatever reason. But exes should always stay in the past. This is my opinion if you don’t agree with me then that’s ok, but I’m saying for me the past should remain in the past.

I came home for the 4th of July weekend to spend it with my family, I haven’t been home in a month and I finally got a weekend off to do so. Being here has now become this portal of nostalgia and my mind tends to wander into the past. But something happened that made me dive way into the past. I blame Facebook for this occurrence, THERE that red little square that appears when you have a new message. Usually I associated it with my boyfriend, up until he joined the rest of us soul less smart phone carriers, he would contact me through Facebook messages.  But now we text/skype/call so now these messages are usually friends with whom I haven’t spoken with in awhile or something of the sort. OR….they are for people to find you without having your cell number. We make it easy for people to get in touch with us, great for certain situations but also easy for those EXES to find and booty call us so as to validate them once again. (Unless they have been blocked of course) I check my cell only to see that red square and a message from him, the first actual ex. The one who had a baby? Still find it bizarre to say let alone type out. She’s adorable of course, but I digress. The message read:

Hey Kim,  I was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime? If you don’t want to then tell me and I won’t ask again.

Now, my first instinct was to ignore the message. But that blasted curiosity and ego got in the way so of course I responded. -.- I’m weak.  My initial response was Whaaat?!  Because lets face it, I found it surprising. It’s been what 6 years? Or something, maybe 4 since we’ve spoken. Actually, I totally forgot about this, but he messaged me before school let out to ask me how I was doing. I didn’t really think anything of it because he didn’t message me again…until now.  I added more because it sounded kind of rude, and I basically say how I assumed he was married or something. He responds with no, they are no longer together. Bummer.  So then I finish up, by saying how I have a boyfriend and that I’m sorry how things didn’t work out with the mother of his child…saying baby’s momma sounds bad. He doesn’t respond after that message. But I really wish I could ask him what he was thinking, because I find it odd for him to ask ME out. I mean, even if I wasn’t in a relationship I still would decline his invitation. When I think of asking out an ex, I think that person must assume that they can return to the time when they dated that person and pick up right where they left off. We trick ourselves into this illusion of time travel. But, we have changed. I am definitely not the same person he dated, and I know he is no longer the person I dated. He’s a father!!! But I mean aside from that.  I imagine what that date would look like, hypothetically of course, if I were to say yes. I think we would both have this expectation on how the other would act and what would happen on this date. We dated when we were teens, so it was this puppy love relationship that didn’t go very far. I think it would be awkward to try to date my high school sweetheart. He knew me when I was 16, 17,18,19, 0.O So weird. It would be wrong on all fronts. But part of me just can’t help but see this as a booty call message. I mean, why else do people contact their exes? Acting like they can return to that time, means they feel as though they wouldn’t have to put much effort in the dating part. Meaning they could skip right to the nitty and gritty/sex part. -.- We never reached that part in the relationship…between me and you someone was very impatient. Ahem…..>.>

I’m glad he wasn’t very persistent in this, not like that would cause any problems because I would solve it with a block or by not responding to his unnecessary messages. Because there is no reason he should be contacting me in the first place, but because he did, it made me retreat back to 2008. Our senior year of high school. Stupid year book made me reminiscence and whatnot, but I’ve come to the conclusion that I really hated high school. You could not pay me enough money to go back and redo it all again, because NOOOO!!!

Have you every been contacted by an ex after years of not speaking or seeing one another? Would you consider dating them again?  In some cases it might be great, this is just in my case..a world of no. Well, that’s all for now….Happy Forth!!!

Thanks for reading and commenting.

Wow that’s so weird! How awkward!!

My most recent ex contacts me ALL THE FREAKING TIME. It’s been about two years since we broke up, and I have heard from him every few months since then. I imagine he isn’t going to give up anytime soon, either.

Good for you for blowing that guy off! What was he thinking??

@Kristen, I really don’t know why they think they can try again. I mean, the point of moving on is to…move on. Talk about lazy.
What does your boyfriend say about the constant messages? Does it ever bother him?

@Kimmy, He HATES it. At first, he understood. But two years later, he gets really mad. One of these days I think he’s going to end up calling my ex up himself and giving him a piece of his mind. I would do the same thing if his ex kept trying to contact him, so I understand.
