Getting Crafty

I’ve been having that itch to do something creative. Whether it be painting, photography, writing…just something.  And like I mentioned a bit in my Happy post, I am attempting some casual cosplay.

I’ve attempted cosplay before but I wasn’t very good at it.  My main problem is finishing the full outfit. I always start way too late and then never finish it. This time for Anime Matsuri, when Matt suggested we dress up, I immediately went to Rogue and Gambit. I thought, what could be easier? These outfits would be great to casual cosplay. And I managed to find pieces rather easily, they all fell into place, I ordered most of the items. Finding green pants was harder than I thought it would be though and I managed to find some at Macy’s, however I did not like how they looked. I decided to chance ordering some green jeggings on Amazon and they’re great! Comfy too! So I’m excited. I just now need to embellish the shirt, add the patches to the jacket, and remove the hood. I need to get a different belt and then still waiting on my gloves to come in. I hope they make it, these are important.  Now for Gambit, this has proved to be a bit difficult. The jacket….I haven’t been able to find an appropriate jacket anywhere. Matt is tall,  so I was hoping to find something in person so we could make sure it fits. He was hoping to get pleather too, but this jacket isn’t exactly in style. Plus, I was hoping to find something light weight so he wouldn’t be too hot. I know I’ll be hot walking around in this jacket and gloves, but I really just want cute pictures of us together. Won’t have anyway to take them, So I’ll have to do it myself. But oh, well. I wish my siblings were coming with us. I’m so glad Matt is having as much fun with this as I am. I just don’t want him to stress out about not finding the right stuff. I figured we could use these outfits again if we do another con or if we go somewhere for Halloween this year. I would love to use it them again! XD Continuing on, I’ve just been in the crafty mood, so I decided to paint…but what to paint? Rogue of course!!! So I drew from a reference photo and I’m actually surprised with out it came out, much better than I though it would. I’m not great at drawing, let alone drawing human characters but I’m pretty happy with it. I even painted it with watercolors!!! Again, pretty happy! The proportions are a bit odd  but still….happy! 🙂

I have a planner video coming up and a book haul video too, so if you’re interested in seeing those stay tuned! What do you do when you’re feeling motivated to create something? Do you have any artsy hobbies you haven’t had time for? I’d love to hear about it.

Thanks for reading!

EYK-Martina and Simon

My sister and I had the chance to go to a Youtube meet and greet for the Eat Your Kimchi Crew this past Friday. And let me just say, they were/are so freaking adorable!!!!

Kat has been watching their videos for awhile now and she introduced them to me, and before the 4 min video was over, I was already hooked. They do such cute, funny and positive videos that it’s hard not to. At first I wasn’t going to go with her, but then I thought, this does happen very often, and they give off such a great vibe that spending $30 to see them for a couple of hours was worth it. Plus, we are supporting them and their videos, so I decided to join my sister. If you haven’t heard of them, then I definitely recommend that you check them out. They have great videos, and they are so positive and just happy-go-lucky. We waited for ever to get our picture taken with them and have a chance to talk to them for a bit. Unfortunately, we were at the back so by the time it got to us, they were rushing us out of the building. Which just happened to be at my college. But we managed to get our hugs and pictures, which if you think about it, hugging complete strangers and wanting a picture with them is rather odd. But after watching their videos, both personal and entertainment ones, makes you feel as though they are your friends.

They are the cutest married couple, ever! I’m so glad to have had the chance to meet them. Living in Houston has made meeting a bunch of inspiring people possible. Thank you Houston! Thanks all for now. :3

Star Wars Fest

Saturday was the 4th annual Star Wars Art Fest and I finally got the chance to attend. Last year my sisters and I were manning a table at a Pop Shop event so I wasn’t able to make it to the Star Wars event. The boyfriend had a ton of events that he wanted to go to this weekend. I just wanted to go to the Star Wars one but we went to the Dragon boat race. starwarsfest15It was too hot so we didn’t stay very long, plus getting there was annoying and we only saw one race….sort of. And I let my annoyance get the better of me. I shouldn’t let things ruin my day, but sometimes I do and then I transform into a grumpy mess. However, when it does happen I do my best to snap out of it as quickly as I can. Once we finally made it to the Star Wars Fest, and after I got over parking. We went into the studio, which is a really cool building. I should have taken more pictures, but my cell battery has been wonky so I was only able to take a few pictures. I still want to save up for a good camera so I can change that. My main goal was to stop by Yamin’s table. I’ve mentioned his work several times, here, here and here, and wanted to see all of his Star Wars items. I was on the verge of either buying an R2D2 or Death Star necklace, he has a deal at events like these, one for $20 and two for $30. So I was trying to find something for Kat, but she’s not a huge Star Wars fan. Then I was hoping the boyfriend would find something he liked, but he’s not the biggest Star Wars fan either. I mean, they enjoy the movies, but that’s as far as it goes. But then he tells me to pick one, and points to the Death Star, and he picks one out for his roommate. He always treats me with gifts, so I’m working on doing something special for him. It’s just the coolest design, I don’t remember him having these the first time I was introduced to his work, so this design must be new. But while I was admiring his work, he came up to me and noticed my  AT-AT necklace that I’ve had for a year and so charmingly says, “I made that!” While pointing to my necklace. I reply with, I know! And then he notices the bf’s keychain hanging from his belt loop and says, “I made that too! It’s one of a kind, no one else has that. You’re one lucky guy.” Again, so freaking charming. He then goes into how great the material is, surprised by the fact that my necklace was a year old. I plan to order more custom orders in the future. We walked around for a bit, saw a bunch of great Star Wars art and then finished eating sandwiches in the car. Once we finally decided to leave, I decided to take him to one of my favorite bookstores. Kaboom. He looked for a bit an bought a few books. While I waited for him, I had a long conversation with the owner. So when we were getting ready to leave, we decided to give our Star Wars tickets to her since she complimented my necklace. The event was a two day thing, and we weren’t able to go back for Sunday so I’m hoping she used them.

It was a very eventful weekend, a nice way to let out some end-of-the-semester-stress. I have only one more final left and then I’ll be done with this semester. I don’t even want to think about what I still have to figure out before the month is over. I still have a bunch of crap I need to take care of before June. -.- Ahem….anyway, must remain positive.  That’s it for now…until next time.

Pop Shop

So as I mentioned in my last post, I went with the weirdos to a craft event that is held here in Houston and hosted by Pop Shop Houston America. This was a mini version of a large event that happens I think twice a year? I could be mistaken so don’t quote me. I was pretty excited to go and see what each vendor had to offer. Plus, just being around creative people is inspiring and motivating.

The first thing we saw were painted plates and cards then several tents that had vintage clothing. We moved on towards the booths that had jewelery but I stopped and noticed a woman sitting at a typewriter with the sign Poems for Sale Barter or Trade. So I traded her a marker that I had in my bag and gave her the topic of motivation. I wanted something to remind me when I need an extra push of motivation. Next time I’ll ask for one that’s about positivity. She began typing away, the look on her face while she was typing was complete focus. You could see her pull out words from nowhere and somehow create this well thought of poem. I could never write something like that on the spot. Her name is Traci Lavois and you can find her over here. After receiving my poem we walked on over to this table in the corner. IMG_20140209_165654On the table were different types of jewelery…rings, bracelets, and necklaces. I was in awe. They were amazing, and there were something for every type of movie addict, gamer, and music fan in the world. AND….he does custom orders. You can find his work over here. These are great as gifts, because even if he doesn’t have something you’re looking for, just email him and send him a design you’re interested in. He does plaques too, so we’re hoping to request one for father’s day. And I wasn’t sure which one to get the boyfriend, but since he bikes and bought me a bike for my birthday, (I never mentioned that did I? >.< Well, he did.) I thought getting him the bike one was the best choice. Maybe next time, provided Yamin is there, the bf can pick one he likes more. Because frankly, it’s not like you could own too much. We also want to request Mind-Speak key chains for the three of us. Just something to inspire us to continuing working on MS. So there were tons that I wanted while browsing, however I had only enough cash on me to purchase two and my goal was to buy one for the bf and for Kat, as a Valentine gift. So I bought the bike and a Dr. Who one for the little weirdo. There were so many Star Wars ones, but I couldn’t buy it. So I went on browsing and when I rejoined the married weirdos, Jody told me that the AT-AT was gone. While I was bummed he had put it around my neck. The sneaky Jobro bought it for me along with a mushroom bracelet for himself. Then we went halfsies and bought Mija a Day of The Dead skull. Great purchases and totally want more. The craft fair was wonderful, and I can’t wait to attend a larger scale one that is coming up in May, but until then there is another mini one coming up in March so I have that to look forward to.

Any craft fairs in your town/city? If you’re not sure, try looking it up…you’d be surprised what gems you might find. Houston continues to amaze me, I really enjoy living here. 🙂 That’s all for now, until next time.
