Inspiraton

So today was the Houston Indie Book Fest and I couldn’t be more excited. This is my favorite event that happens every April here in Houston, it is the reason I discovered my love for the literary world. Well…for the publishing world.

indiebookfest

I had a blast! I worked the CLMP table from 1 to 5, it was so much fun but I came home exhausted. I immediately passed out and didn’t wake up until 10:30. After being surrounded by so much fiction and writers I actually find myself being inspired. So I’ll start writing my story for workshop on Thursday. I just wish the weekend was longer. >.<

I only bought two things, I’ve been planning on buying hard copies of this journal for THE longest time and I finally did today. The First Line has to be one of my favorite literary journals. I keep wanting to submit a story to them but I always miss out on the lines that I want. The line for may is...”I started collecting secrets when I was just six years old.” And submissions are due May 1st. I didn’t even get to really look around the Festival too much because I was already so tired. But I got what I wanted to buy and I had fun manning the table. I’m definitely going to start my story after I post this blog entry. My sister went around and filmed the festival so I plan on making a small video so you can see how awesome it was. Also, I had a surprised visit from my dancing partner, Julian, mentioned in this entry. It was nice catching up with him and he even stayed awhile to help me sell books. You’ll see in the video I post below. It was nice seeing him, it’s been awhile. Anyway, so I’ve just been craving some time to just create something. Be it writing, knitting, sewing, or even filming a vlog about something. There are several vlogs I want to make. Like about products I use, or an outfit of the day, especially this Houston series I desperately want to start. Which would  basically be a vlog where I introduce my favorite shops and restaurants that make me love living in Houston.

Besides the book fest there have been several things online that have also been putting me in this creative mood.

First, this mini documentary that Dove made about beauty. *Take the time to stop reading now and go watch those videos. And then continue reading…I mean only if you want to.* After watching these videos I just had this feeling, I’m trying to figure out how to describe it but I’m lacking the right words. It was a wonderful documentary to watch, it just really put beauty in perspective. How we see ourselves and how others see us. It was eye opening. I don’t know why this put me in a creative mood, but it was just interesting to see. Others don’t notice the flaws we see in ourselves. I was also amazed how a person can draw another person just  by hearing descriptions. And the women looked more like themselves when a stranger described them versus when they described themselves. Great right?

And then, I’m pretty sure I saw them have a table at the fest but I didn’t exactly examine it. I totally want to Mind-Speaks to have a table at this event. Obviously my sisters and I have make some things to actually sell. But I definitely want to do it sometime. It looks like a lot of fun, and it also looks like a great way to get our products out there.

I’m pretty sure you’ve seen Tyler Knott Gregson’s poetry before. I’ve been reading tons, and I just love how romantic and perfect they are. This one is a favorite, but it is very hard to have just one favorite. I pinned several of them because I just had to share them.

So that was my weekend. Thanks to Mija and Ginger for coming and for the fries, wish I had time to eat them. Now I must finish writing my story for class on Thursday. Bring on the headache. -.-

Thanks for commenting and reading.

@Mija, It did help, A LOT, so thanks for doing it.

Events like this make me more outgoing, and I liked acting as if I knew what I was talking about. XD

@Kristen, Are you sure it doesn’t? The only reason I found out about this one was because of school. So you never know, your city might have similar events. 😀

I remember working on a project of my own, an original novel I planned to print into a booklet once it’s all done however the tragedy for having my laptop formatted happened so voila, everything was gone.I sure miss writing it but I don’t want to restart everything again from zero….also because it was a scifi fantasy thing. Hard stuff unless I kill my brain and I have long weekend and much leisure time under my sleeve, which, sadly, isn’t something that’s going to come soon. Life as an art student is just too demanding..
I get your part of getting inspired after “touching” a lot of writings made by other people; great officially stamped writers or even online ones.
I’ve never bought any literary journal so I’m not sure about it. I do sense the fun in reading someone else’s experience though, sort of like reading an autobiography, I guess? Frankly, I’ve never heard of The First Line society haha thank you for introducing it to my clueless self :))

I really love that Dove documentary! It gives such a good message and atmosphere.

    Good luck on writing 😀
