Inside Kimmy's Mind

This past weekend my family and I went to New Orleans. I meant to post an entry about me leaving but I just never got around to publishing it. And now I’m back so that entry is not necessary.

The blog post I meant to post mentioned how I had planned to take loads of pictures and video. I didn’t exactly do any of that. We got in Friday night so there wasn’t really any photo ops. Then Saturday it was rainy and I didn’t feel like taking pictures. -.- The rain made me sleepy. We spent the day at The National WWII Museum. It was amazing, we watched this video narrated by Tom Hanks. It was a really great experience, if you are ever in New Orleans then I suggest you partake in that experience. Lucky for instagram otherwise I wouldn’t have any pictures at all. I only updated a few times over the weekend. I feel really bummed that I didn’t even take any instax pictures. I dunno why I didn’t take any pictures. Hopefully the next time we travel I pull out the camera and actually document my trip. Mija and Kat took a few instagrams as well but not as much as we should have.

Here is my instagram from the weekend. I had a lot of fun spending time with Jody‘s family but I’m happy to be home. Texas get’s a lot of crap but I actually love living in Texas, doesn’t mean I dislike visiting other states. It’s a lot of fun. I bought a New Orleans post card to put in my smash book along with the pictures above and a few other items from the war museum. So I’m excited to get that smash page started.

So I finally got my hair cut. I believe it’s been about 2 years since my last hair cut. o.o Crazy I know.

I’m always a little hesitant when it comes to getting my hair cut. I feel like if I go in thinking it will come out horrible then it won’t come as a shock if it does. Pessimistic I know. But I also try to remember that hair grows back and I will just have to deal with it until it does. People definitely put too much pressure on their hair. I think this is the shortest I’ve ever gotten it cut. I do sort of miss my long hair. But it’s refreshing to have all of that weight off. My hair is thick and there is always a lot of it. It takes forever to straighten it so I do like the new length. What I do hate about it is the length of my bangs. The girl who cut my hair, cut my bangs way too short so they look extremely awkward if I wear them down. And every time I straighten my hair I get a little angry at her. She didn’t even cut them all the same length, one side is a bit shorter and then there are a few random strands longer than the rest it is a mess. But again I need to remember that it will grow out and I will just have to find some way to pull them back until they do. The girl who cut my hair graduated with me and she’s only been cutting hair for a year. So of course she wouldn’t be great at it. It was actually really weird to have someone I went to school with shampooing and cutting my hair. She was going to cut a little girls hair but suddenly gave that customer to another hair dresser who was busy straightening her own her instead of focusing on the customers. -.- No one in my hometown can cut hair. After I finish showering and I start to straighten my hair I get a bit peeved when I see just how short my bangs are. They are so short that it makes pinning them back difficult. Too short even for a headband. So I do get a a bit frustrated. But whatever because it will grow back.

This is my mantra for the next couple of weeks…wait how fast does hair even grow? According to Google, it grows half an inch every month. -.- Which is bullshit, because before this hair cut I had a problem with keeping my bangs always being too long. It makes walking to school more fun.

Today was my first day of class. I’m just taking one, a math class, and I’m going to to PASS it this summer. That should actually be my new mantra. -.- This class is a 6 week class, I’ve never taken a 6 week class before so I hope I can keep up with the lessons. I’m not worried about homework or the online quizzes, it’s the in class tests and quizzes that I’m worried about. But I’m going to work hard so I can get this over with. My class ends July 9th, so I’ll have about 6 weeks of summer before my classes at UH start, which is awesome. I hope my sister Kat is able to spend a week in Houston with me before her fall semester starts. Today was fun, after my class I met up with Kat and we had lunch together. BC, aka baby college, went through a lot of remodeling since the last time I was enrolled. It looks really nice, I’ll make sure to take pictures the next time. Of course its not like I have any before pictures but still I want to show it off. Anyway, they now have this little grill and that is where we bought our lunches. I bought a chicken salad sandwich. I have a chicken salad sandwich bucket list going on. It’s my goal to try one from every place that has it on the menu. Pot Belly is the champ and I think it will always be the best in my book. But today’s sandwich was pretty good for $4. I got spinach, lettuce and cucumbers on it. :9 It was a good day, I came home and took a satisfying nap on the couch. Love naps. Well I’m off to read…wow it is such an awesome feeling to be able to snuggle up with a book. 😀

So how do you handle  bad hair cut? Do you high tail it out of the salon and then wear hats until it grows out? I wanna to know, and if you have any advice on working with bangs that were cut way too short let me know. :3

So I’ve met one of his sisters. One down and two to go and then of course there is his mom and dad to win over.

I hope they like me. I mean there is nothing worse than having your family hate the person you are dating. I can’t wait to introduce him to my parents. I think they will really like him. All in due time. I know I’ve been on cloud 9 recently because of him. And I’m trying to keep my head on straight. I still have a life that doesn’t have to revolve around him. Even though I want to talk to him and see him all the time. I realize that is a dangerous feeling to have. But I’ve been really happy since I’ve starting seeing him. Not that I was unhappy before. Because I wasn’t, its just now I wake up with a huge smile on my face. Also he’s actually been a motivation to get my homework done faster as well. So that is always nice. And whenever I’m around him, he makes me want to journal more. I want to work on writing more stories for things like TFL and Boldface. >.< Anyway so last Saturday, I volunteered at the Houston Indie Bookfest. It was a lot of fun, I stood behind the CLMP table. In the beginning  I was unsure and timid. I had no clue as to what they wanted me to do but luckily there was another volunteer at the table to assist me. But once he left I had to step  it up. By the end of my second shift I was charismatic and a terrific sales person. I greeted passersby and helped in anyway I could. I even started asking if they were writers and what genre was their forte. It was pretty fun, I really love the indie fest. It reminds how much I love the writing community. After my shift ended, I had lunch with Jay, his sister and her boyfriend. We met at the Hobbit Cafe. It was fun, his sister seemed really shy and didn’t talk much. But I’m hoping she opens up more as she gets to know me. But it was really fun and I was happy to meet one of his family members. Especially since the night before he had met one of my sisters. After we went to lunch with his sister we headed to the park. We just walked around and then sat on a bench and talked and enjoyed the day. Then we headed to Berripop where we shared a cup of frozen yogurt. And then we walked down University street and visited Urban Outfitters and Half Price Books. He then asked me if I wanted a book or anything, I always feel awkward when someone offers to buy me something. I don’t know why but I just feel weird. I’m not talking birthday gifts or Holiday gifts, but those this-made-me-think-of-you gifts. They are great but I won’t ask for anything. We saw the Tiny Book of Tiny Stories and he offered while I politely declined. Come Monday he went back and bought it for me. Great first gift if I do say so myself. He’s so adorable. Also his mom made me blueberry cookies and they were delicious. We’ve already made plans in May to meet each others parents. He meets mine May 11th and I’ll meet his May 19th. I’m excited but extremely nervous, I hope everyone likes everyone. XD

 Another thing I would like to share with you is…drum roll please…I finally got my braces off. And it is so weird. I have to wear a retainer and it is the most annoying thing. My gums are pretty sore and I think I went a little floss happy and irritated them a bit. Now they are just angry. :/ But I am happy  that I finally got them off, of course I am gonna kind of miss having the different colors and sharing this experience with my younger sister. We both had braces and now that I don’t she jokingly says we aren’t brace face buddies anymore.  She’s funny. I find smiling very awkward. As you can see in the picture on the left. I have an awkward smile. But in my defense my cheeks and gums were already hurting and tired. I’ll get used to smiling just like I’ll get use to this blasted retainer. >.< And then after that all I have to do is go to the dentist so they can fix my front tooth and whiten the hell out of them. Do not be fooled by the picture. My teeth are not white. They only reason the picture depicts that is because of the sunny room and picture effect on instagram.  Okay well I’ve stayed up long enough. But let me end by asking you this…do you find smiling awkward or difficult when taking pictures? Because my entire face just tenses up and just looks horrible.

 

 

So dating when you have no job is difficult.

I mean I’ve never had a job before so I’ve never had money to begin with. And I just recently started dating so I never actually had to worry about having cash on me. As long as I had a couple of bucks on me to put on my Q card I was good. I’m unsure how to handle the subject of money…or in my case lack of money. I know it is customary for the guy to pay for the girl, but I feel bad expecting him to pay for me all the time. I mean he has a job and works to earn his money. Now if I had a job then we could at least split the bill and I would feel better or at least take turns covering it. But I have no money. I actually had this discussion with him. His answer was, “It is absolutely 100% ok, I don’t mind paying for you.” I expressed to him my worries. He then said that if he couldn’t afford it he would let me know. I still feel bad about it, so I told him that we won’t always have to spend money to have fun I mentioned picnics in the park and bookstore scavenger hunts. In Houston there are great hidden bookstores. There is this one called Kaboom that I’ve been trying to locate. So hopefully we can visit a different bookstore on different dates. I’m a cheap date, and I always try to get the cheapest thing on the menu. So continuing on with dates. Mija and Jody wanted to get to know him so the four of us went to our Bánh mì place. He seemed to have like it. I hope he did, because I go there a lot. The sandwiches are $2.50, and that is cheap for such an amazing sandwich. They put this amazing sauce on the meat and I just love it. :9 Oh he picked me some flowers. Yes, like the ones pictured on the left, but the picture is actually of the first ones he picked for me. He sent me a  text saying for you,  I can’t help but think that was adorable. Flowers are delivered digitally now and days. XD He is so cute. He then said that he felt like an elementary kid picking flowers. The date went great, he was able to converse with my sister and bro in-law. I was worried, because Jay doesn’t play video games and that is typically how my sister and bro establish friendships. XD But they talked about movies and history and camping and seemed to have gotten along pretty well. I’m so glad because I really like him. And if my sister didn’t then it would have been a problem.  While we were eating dinner my sister snapped a picture of us. I look horrible in it but I’m sharing it because he looks cute in it. I just wish my mouth wasn’t open. >.< But oh well. I’m having a lot of fun spending time with him and getting to know him. After we had dinner we walked to this other restaurant and had some apple cobbler and listened to live music. It was nice. We then took the train back and got the car and called it a night. I said good night and we  made plans to see each other tomorrow. I’m working a table for the Indie book fest. I’m so excited. If you’re in the Houston area, you should definitely check it out…unless you are a hater of books, then do not come. Or do come and change your mind about them. XD I’m also going to meet his middle sister and her boyfriend. It will be my turn to impress an older sibling. >.< I’m so nervous. He has two other sisters and I know how sisters work. It just takes one to have a negative opinion of something and the others will follow suit. So I really need to make a good impression. Because she will be reporting to his other sisters and his mother. I can’t even think about meeting his mother yet. I know I’m gonna be 10 times more nervous when I do meet her. I told my parents about him as well. I even talked to my dad about him, and I never talk to my dad about guys. But he said on the phone that he is happy for me. It was odd talking to him about it,  but when he said,”How come I’m always the last to hear about things?” It made me feel kind of bad, so I’m going to include him from now on. I mean I’m an adult now. Why shouldn’t I be able to talk about guys with my father? Especially if I’m going to introduce him to my parents some time in the future. I hope we get to that point. Right now we are still just getting to know each other.

How does your family handle your dating life? Do you have a certain way of introducing him/her to your siblings/parents?

Oh yeah!!! I’m getting my braces off next week!!! I can’t wait!!! XD

First I would like to thank everyone for the good advice. I really appreciate it and so far things are still progressing. I’m enjoying the getting-to-know-him phase. We have also planned our next date. We are going to the movies April 13th. The date may change but so far its sometime that weekend. 😀 So I’ll keep you updated with how things are going.

 

In other words I want to mention that my sister Mija has posted a design on threadless. So if you could be so kind and just head over there and vote on it I would really appreciate it. 😀 The are only 3 days left of voting. I really hope it gets made into a shirt. Thank you!!! So I just wanted to share some pictures that I haven’t posted it yet. I wanted to discuss the color mint. How freaking beautiful is that color? As you can tell I really love this mint cardigan I have. I pair with just about everything I own. I also love this color of nail polish. Unfortunately, my mint nail polish has gotten chunky and therefore can no longer be used. I really need to learn how to preserve nail polish. I feel as though they die so easily and I must be doing something wrong. We went shopping the day for Mija’s engagement party. I bought this dress, the top of the dress actually matches the top of the cranberry shirt in the first outfit picture. It was what drew me to the dress to begin with. I plan on pairing it with the mint cardigan and some yellow mustard tights and my favorite green boots. XD Hopefully it’s not too hot that day. If it is then maybe my blue ballet flats. I really hate that its not cold anymore. I loathe the heat seasons. I enjoy the winter so much more. The fashion is better, and my hair looks great most of the time. >.< In the summer however, my hair hates me it is way too hot and oh it is way too hot.  So I noticed the dress I bought right away. I picked it up and immediately rushed to the dressing room to try it on. It’s a tadbaggy in the boob area, but that is always the case with my in between imaginary sized body. :/ Anyway Kat  and Mija also bought dresses for the party. Mija had several in mind but finally decided on this one. Kat almost bought the exact same dress as I did, only in a different color, but then she noticed a different dress and changed her mind. I looked on the site for a picture of it but couldn’t find it. I’ll post pictures of us in our dresses next weekend. The party will be next Saturday, I’m excited. 😀 So after Kat and I decided on our dresses and stockings we decided to try on a bunch of different sunglasses . My face just doesn’t look good in sunglasses. Especially the jumbo bug eye ones. It was a great day.

What color are you obsessed with lately? I’m falling asleep as I type this out so I better get to bed. Next entry might be about The Hunger Games. Guess what? Finally watched the first film.

 

So I had a great Spring Break, I just wish it was longer.

So I went to New Orleans, it was my first time out of Texas and it was so much fun. I got to meet the rest of Jody’s family and visit a different state. I got to ride a ferry walk around the French Quarter. Not to mention eat some delicious food. Went to a craw fish boil at Jody’s brothers house. And then had beignets at Cafe De Monde, I have a lot of video footage to sort through so I’ll end up putting it in a vlog sooner or later. We stayed at with Jody’s dad. His house was so pretty. They had the most comfortable carpet I have ever felt in my life. I always feel strange when I stay at someone elses house. Technically I have two homes since moving in with Mija and Jody. Both feel like home for me, just in different ways. The New Orleans air didn’t like my hair. And I thought Texas hated it the most, but nope. The first day it was ok because it was nice and cool but extremely windy. I was all about comfort on this trip.  Oh yeah walked down Bourbon street, yup saw a bunch of nudie pics. But before that we saw one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen- St. Louie Cathedral. Is that an oxymoron? Or is it irony? XD Well it doesn’t matter, it was so beautiful. The whole trip was just fantastic. It was a nice getaway. Minus the fact I brought home a cold as a souvenir. But now I know why people travel. A change of scenery, that’s probably why people run away from their problems. I didn’t think about any home work assignments that entire weekend. It was nice to come back home and then have an entire week to just catch up on dreaming….even though I should have done  homework. :/ I just didn’t want to do anything, but I did go to the rodeo. But I’ll talk about that in a later post. I actually have a lot to talk about, but have to finish this post first. >.<

I’m so unorganized, I let too much time pass and then other things happen that I want to share but I can’t put them all in one post.  That would be even more messy. How do you keep your blog post organized? Or do you just type whatever whenever?

So this weekend the weirdos and I are heading to New Orleans.

Jody has invited us to go and visit his family. I’m excited, I’ve never been outside of Texas before. I haven’t even traveled explored the rest of Texas. I’ve been to Austin, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Mission, McAllen, and a few other small towns. But I haven’t been anywhere really, my family and I never really went on vacations.  I’m finally packed, I think I have everything I need. I’m not bringing my lappy because where we’re staying won’t have wifi, plus my laptop should be traveling.   But before I go, I wanted to share a funny story with you. I don’t want to gross anyone out so if talking about feminine products disgusts you then stop reading now. Ok so I carry extra pads with me for those just in case moments. Because we all know that mother nature loves to screw with us. Well anyway, I had put on in the zipper compartment of my bag. Its one of those Always thin pads, anyway so I kept it unzipped because I had kept my cell in that compartment. Well I head in to the bathroom and start checking my bag and its vanished. I must have dropped it somewhere on campus, of course you would think that I would have noticed but obviously not. This moment made me think of another time this has happened to me. I can laugh about it now, but the 11 yr old me would cringe to think I’m sharing this story with other people. So when I was 11, according to biology or science, I had become a woman. I, the same as now, carried extra pads with me. Only I carried like five extra pads with me. A bit much but hey I didn’t know how many to carry with me.  Well I must have forgotten to zip the front pocket of my backpack because all of these pads had fallen out all over the assembly area.  Luckily there were only a few people, all of them girls and all of them “friends”, and they started making fun of me. Now these pads weren’t diapers. They were tiny pads, I was 11 for goodness sake. I can laugh at it now, but at the time I was really embarrassed. So I just ran off. The next morning I get to school and notice the pads I had left were being kicked around by some boys. Most of my peers avoided them but one boy had picked one up to throw away ,holding it between his index and thumb as if it were used. I was mortified because it was all anyone had talked about all day. About the pads that littered the assembly area. Now that I’m an adult I can laugh but I can imagine the current 22 yr me dropping a pad in front of someone but they were probably too embarrassed to say, “Hey you dropped your pad.” XD

Just one of those moments that might have been a bit embarrassing but since I was so unobservant it didn’t phase me. 😀

So we went to the zoo on Saturday. Jody and Mija have memberships and they let Kat and me tag along. 😀 We walked to the train and I personally like the light rail so much more than the bus It’s faster and has more seating. If only the rails were all over Houston then public transportation would be a lot more fun.  We were on a time crunch so we had to wake up early. But we managed to see everything I wanted to. Elephants, peacocks, orangutans and the red panda are all the animals I was hoping to see.  As you can see from my gif playing in the sidebar, the red panda was one of my favorite animals I saw this weekend. So adorable. The mommy and baby orangutans were just so cute. The mom was named Cheyenne  and she is a surrogate mother to abandon babies. Her newest baby is Aurora. She had the cutest case of bed hair. When we first went around to their exhibit we couldn’t see them. They were laying down behind the pillars. The playground was decorated for Aurora’s first birthday. They had birthday presents all over  the place, Cheyenne took it as her duty to open and consume whatever was in the box. There was also this hilarious lemur who kept spreading his arms upwards. Too funny. Once I saw him I couldn’t help but sing, I like to move it move it. It was the same type of lemur that sings that song in the movie Madagascar.

After we left the zoo we walked back to the train and took it to Les Girvals for the best bahn mi sandwiches ever. Ok, so I haven’t really tried any other places. But these sandwiches are so freaking yummy and I feel like it just can’t any better than this. The BBQ is marinated in this amazing sauce plus the sandwiches are only 2.50 so whenever I have money I head over there and treat myself. Especially since now I know how to get there from my house. I did try the place on campus but it was horrible. There was this horrible hummus spread on in instead of the yummy sauce that makes the sandwich great. This is also probably the reason I don’t try any other restaurants.

So I just heard about Google Friend being discontinued.  -.- This sucks. I hate when Google decides to take something, that people use, away. So on Monday, the weirdos and I were gonna head to Ihop for some free pancakes. And then we realized that none of us are even fans of pancakes. I’m more of a French toast or waffle person. Anywho, we decided on eating at Jus’ Mac instead.  What is Jus’ Mac you ask? Well since you asked, it is this amazing restaurant that serves just mac, meaning macaroni and cheese. But I’m not talking just plain Kraft here. This is gourmet stuff, and so freaking yummy. :9 The first time I tried one of their dishes was when my bro-in law brought some leftovers home. The dish was called The Pit Master: brisket topped with Colby Jack and BBQ sauce. Delicious. I’m from Texas and the BBQ is awesome here so of course there has to be a dish with brisket it in. Then to top it all off is bread crumbs. Eating regular mac and cheese just won’t taste the same without the bread crumbs toasted on top. I don’t think I can go back to Kraft. >.< I tried something different when we went Monday night. The Broc: fresh broccoli florets topped with cheddar. It was so yummy. Obviously if your not a fan of broccoli then this wouldn’t be the dish for you. But they have other ones to suit your taste. The next time we go I plan on trying the Cheese and Chong: seared chicken, sauteed mushrooms, pesto topped with French fried onions.  Can’t wait. >.< They offer two sizes personal and regular. I got the personal and it may look small but believe me, it is more than enough. I highly recommend trying Jus’ Mac if you are ever in Houston or Sugar Land. It changes mac and cheese. Moving on, so when I came home today Jody had the blinds opened. Tomo loves it when the he can peer outside. (what a creeper) He’s only ever been an inside cat so he doesn’t really know about the outside world. Sometimes there will be stray cats wondering around and he’ll get excited/scared and just glare at them. He makes a funny noise when he sees birds outside. It is super funny check out the video below to see what I mean. It’s an old video I shot back in 09 to show my sister how weird her cat is. He is sort chirping, I think he is trying to talk to me. Such an odd ball. I’m amazed he can fit on the windowsill. Such a big kitty, also his birthday is coming up. I think he is going to be 4? I plan on knitting him another bow to wear for his special day. He didn’t like the last one I knitted for him. But he can wear one for one day. XD

Also my laptop is starting to spazz out on me. The screen is starting to flicker…that’s how my first laptop died. -.- I’m seriously doomed when it comes to computers. Please just hold out for the next two seasons. 😥

So I’ve become obsessed with marble nails. I have Pinterest to thank for that.

Now I haven’t gotten the hang of it quite yet, but I manged to get a pretty awesome pattern on my thumb nail. Of course when I tried again the next day the results weren’t as successful. -.- I don’t know what happened but they just kept coming out smeared but I will keep trying until I get the hang of it. So I was tagged twice, by Tina and then by S. Since I have already asked my own questions and answered the 11 facts here I wont bore you by doing it again. >.< However, I will answer the questions I was asked. Since Tina answered hers via vlog I thought I would do the same seeing as it has been way too long since my last vlog. It just takes such a long time to edit it. :/

1. How long have you been blogging, and why do you blog? I have been blogging since I was 15 back when greatestjournal was alive, but this blog was started in August of 08. I love blogging, and I love documenting my life.
2. Do you have an unusual skill or talent? Not really. And any skills I do have aren’t really unusual. They are pretty much average skills. :/
3. Where is the most beautiful place you have ever been? I haven’t been anywhere outside of Texas, believe it or not but there are some beautiful places in Texas. None come to mind at the moment, but I’m sure it’ll come to me sooner or late.
4. If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be? Wherever the shop Red Velvet is located. I want to meet the owners so bad.
5. If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would buy for yourself? For myself? Well since I have permission to be selfish I will. I would buy myself a new laptop and then give the rest to my parents. 😀
6. What is the one book you think everyone should read? The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides.
7. If you could travel to another time period, when would it be, and why? Probably the 60’s because of the fashion. But I don’t think I would want to stay there for very long. Because I’m spoiled by the present day.
8. In a movie of your life, who would play you? I would either want Natalie Portman or Zooey Deschanel because they are both so adorable.
9. What is your favorite word? Or something you say too often? I think the word serendipity is fun to say. But I don’t get to say it very often. >.<

2. If you could have any magical power in the world, what would it be? Usually, I would say the power to absorb knowledge. But I now want the ability to freeze time. 😀
3. What makes you embarrassed? This list could go on forever!!! I’m embarrassed by almost everything. One thing that I encounter on a day to day basis, is tummy growls. My tummy growls uncontrollably loud during classes. And it just embarrasses the hell out of me. I know its not something I should really be embarrassed by. But it does.  XD
4. If you were given a coconut right now, how would you open it? I have no idea. Try to poke a hole in it? I mean that’s what Tom does in Tom and Jerry. I don’t like coconut so I wouldn’t open it, I would just give it to someone who does like it. >.<
