Fringe Woes

haircut Like all hair cuts, I doubted whether or not bangs would look good on me. Questioned it over and over again and then finally I took a chance and went with it. Now here we are five years later and I still have the trendy fringe. However, when you take on this particular hair style then it’s something you have to keep up with. Because hair grows. And seeing as how it can block your vision it cannot be ignored. So occasionally, I daresay…I trim it myself. >.< I know, if there were ever a life tip that you should follow it’s NEVER TRIM YOUR OWN BANGS. Unless you are a professional hairstylist or have some type of knowledge of hair cutting and how to do it correctly. Because let’s face it…I do not possess that skill. Not that all hairstylist possess it either. :/ (This comes to mind)

On to more woes…

I had trouble sleeping the other night, causing me to not get enough sleep. I woke up late for work and very sore, everything hurt this morning. I also had to race to try and catch my bus. But on my way to the bus stop I felt my ankle roll, there was no stopping me from falling. All I could do was fall and hope that it didn’t hurt that much. I scrapped my elbow and knees but more importantly I missed my bus because of that fall. -.- I laid on my back for a second and thought, “The minute I get up I will see bus 10 pass before me.” And sure enough, I got myself up and there went my bus. I of course let out some colorful words and just huffed a bit trying to walk off the additional pain I now felt. I walked in the opposite direction to try and catch a different bus, but as soon as I made it to the corner of the street there went bus 14. Some more color. I proceeded to that stop seeing as how I was already there. I ended up being 45 mins late for work. :/ I had three parties that day so being in a bad mood when having to deal with children is not good. So I made sure to lighten up my mood once I got there, was not going to let my bad morning ruin someone’s birthday party. Each party went great, the kids were adorable and for the most part well behaved so no complaints on that end. But I am exhausted, everything still hurts and I’m also sick of the horrible weather we have been having. It’s too hot! I miss sweater weather so much. I almost melted on my way to work. So gross.

I’m exhausted so I think I should end this entry here. I have a meeting at the museum at 3 today, so I don’t have to wake up too early which is always nice. I’m going to keep on doodling. But I’ve also wanted to try the disposable camera challenge. Have you heard of that going around on the blogosphere? I’m kind of interested in trying that out. Until nest time….

Doodles

I have been in a very artsy mood, all because of Frannerd! If you haven’t seen her vlogs or read her blog, then you are definitely missing out. Other illustrators I’ve been admiring are Mary Doodles and Courtney Wirth[it].

medoodleFran’s simplistic style is fresh and just adorable, I wish I was an illustrator, but unfortunately I can’t just draw from my imagination. Mary’s style is like Grimm meats Tim Burton. Very sketchy but I love her use of watercolors. She does this one series where she doodles something without looking and then makes something out of that doodle. It’s amazing, and I wish I could attempt something like that. So I’ve decided to go and buy myself a sketch book, something small so I can take it on the go. I want to challenge myself and just doodle something every now and then. Like Fran, she doodles her daily tasks. I want to get in the habit of doing something like that and then move on to creating something out of a just lines and curves like Mary does. Courtney’s work is just beautiful, my favorite has to be these comic strips. The doodle above is something I made, after being inspired by Fran. In her latest vlog she mentions wanting to dye her hair pink, which I’m sure is the reason why she doodles herself with that hair color. So if I could dye my hair a bizarre color, it would be a minty green color. Very mermaidish. My doodle even has my awkward smile. It happened unintentionally, but hey that happens whenever I try to smile in pictures as well. So yay doodle me, for being somewhat accurate.

Other illustrations that I’ve been swooning over have been from games. Child of Light came out recently and it has a beautiful style that I have been enjoying. Also want to point out Don’t Starve and Bravely Default as well. I just recently purchased Bravely Default, I know, a bit late in the game but I can’t always purchase the new games when they are released. Billsbd to pay and whatnot. So I usually just admire from a far, or in the case of the 3Ds, play the demo. Which I did, and lucky too because it carried all of my street passes and that comes in handy for when I rebuild my village.  Loving it so far, Kat got Animal Crossing which seems like a less stressful game, and I’m sort of wishing I got that one too. But I can wait and perhaps find it somewhere cheaper/pre-owned. Of course, nintendo points are bonus if you purchase games new. -.- First world problems…I know. But anyway, so I’ve been in a major artsy mood, but have yet to figure out a way to get my art fix. Which is why I’m gonna try the doodle challenge. I don’t know if this will work out, I usually get discouraged when it comes to drawing/painting. And I turned the apartment upside down because I couldn’t find my small paint brushes. They will probably turn up when I’m not looking for them.

So, who are you artistically inspired by? Do share. And if you have any drawing/painting exercises to help improve my “skills” then I definitely want to know. Until next time….

A Bit of Pop

This past weekend was Pop Shop, which is this amazing craft event that lasts two days and happens twice a year. They have smaller events known as Mini Pops that I’ve mention in the past but this was even more amazing and being apart of it was absolutely wonderful.

My sisters and I were asked to host a craft table, we share an art blog known as Mind-Speaks where we each post creative projects that we are working on. We wrote a guest post over at the Pop Shop blog. And of course Mija updated about it over at M-S and on her personal blog as well.

It was a blast, I was afraid people wouldn’t be interested in it but luckily there was a great turn out. There were a couple of people who were very enthusiastic about it too. They came back to make more or they brought along friends with them. It was a nice feeling to inspire someone creatively. I hope we managed to do that if not more. The little kids were adorable, the ones that were old enough to stamp the corks down themselves were still young enough to find it magical. But who am I kidding, even the teens and adults thought it was magical. Their excitement after stamping a background pattern was just priceless. There were a few people who just weren’t interested and that’s fine, but some of those who weren’t interested ended up returning after seeing tons of people with the cork necklaces. Even vendors started looking for us.

Jellyfish by Nothing but a Pigeon//etsy//blog

Mug by The Barking Bunny//etsy//site

On to the goodies! I bought this adorable jellyfish to ease the pain of losing a great stewardess bag that only cost 12 bucks!!! >.< I waited and of course someone else bought it. But Mr. Jelly totally made me happy. How cute is he? The artist was unbelievably friendly. Being a knitter myself I always find crocheters fascinating. One day I hope I can learn how to crochet. Correction….one day I WILL learn how to crochet. Moving on, this adorable mug was given to me by my friend Ginger. I was debating whether or not to buy one after she had purchased a set of mugs from The Barking Bunny. But before I went off to buy it, she handed me her bag and said they were for Kat and me. How wonderful is she?! I absolutely adore her.
There were so many things I wanted to buy this weekend, but things tend to be more pricey at craft fairs. For understandable reasons.

Along with the craft fair, Sunday just so happened to be Star Wars day. I didn’t get a chance to go to the Star Wars art fair that was happening a couple blocks from Pop Shop. But maythe4thbewithyou I stayed up all night making this skirt. It was completely rushed and had so many flaws, but I love it nonetheless. It did its job and served me well. I’ve learned that I should always have trimming, no matter what. I need to buy that stuff in bulk. You never know when you might need something trimmed with pretty ruffles or pleats. Any who, it’s filled with tons of mistakes if you examine it closely, so don’t do that. I need to buy more Star Wars fabric so I can better prepare for next year. I ran out of fabric so I had to use some left over galaxy fabric I had. But it came out alright for doing it in one night, rushed and messy but I was glad I made something to wear. Did some buns too, Leia buns look more like cinnamon rolls but doing the whole sock bun makes them all round and perfect, so I went with that approach. I was hoping we would make it to the Star Wars art fair, but the line was too long and we were all tired from being at the studio two days in a row. So we went out to eat instead and just relaxed and talked. It was a wonderful weekend, we had so much fun and we hope to continue doing these fun art fairs.

I think I should end this entry now. But before I go, a few small things that I’ll talk more about on my next post. Went to an interview for Houston Press on Wednesday. Got the job, and this Thursday was my last day at the deli!!! Also…I’ve passed two of my grades so far with an A and a B!!!! I made a B in Biology!!!! Crazy, I was afraid I wasn’t even going to get a C but I managed to get a B!!! Damn, I’m so happy. This means I won’t have to retake it for my science credit. Yay!!! I’m such in a good mood. Ok, more next time…until then.

Good Vibes

So last week was definitely a brighter one, and I’m so glad to have people in my life that make the difficult times more endurable and the fantastic times more well….fantastic. :3

First off, I should warn you that this entry will be filled with lots of pictures…I just want to share them all instead of posting them in more than one entry. >.< I had my interview at the Science Museum on Wednesday, and it went GREAT! The ladies I interviewed with were just wonderful. They gave me stickers to walk around the museum for free, while I was instagraming some dino bones they found me and asked me to fill out a background check information sheet. They said they couldn’t wait and wanted to start the hiring process…however, anything could happen so I don’t want to jinx it just yet. But I’m really excited about working in a museum. After walking around for a bit more I called all my family to tell them how well it went. I know, a bit premature but I was just so excited. Anyway, I headed home to get ready for my night out with Melissa and Kat. We had plans to go out for some tiramisu and then after that to an evening of great music at the House of Blues. Melissa introduced us to the band Merriment and Eisley and invited us to the concert. I’m so glad she did, because it was just wonderful.

First Kisses

So Kat shared this video with me, it’s a look into how humans react to a first kiss with a stranger. I mean, granted these people are strangers and they don’t have any feelings for each other, but it was still interesting to see how they reacted to kissing. I mean a kiss is one of the most amazing/intimate things two people can share.

And they could very well just be actors, but it still made me think of how I reacted to my first kiss….to all my first kisses. I mean, it’s strange to think back on it. When I was junior high, I would watch every romantic comedy and get that warm fuzzy feeling whenever I saw the characters kiss for the first time. I mean, that’s what the movie is leading up to, I mean besides the conflict and resolution. I was obsessed with the first kiss scenes in movies. I would imagine what my first kiss would be like. (FYI-I wouldn’t find out until I turned 18, which is pretty embarrassing to admit. >.<)  Anyway, my point is that I found first kisses/ kissing in general to be magical. Since that first kiss, I’ve had a total of 6 first kisses. But only 3 were with guys that became boyfriends, but that’s a story for another entry. I mean, I know that movies have this unrealistic vision when it comes to romance, but sometimes reality can let in moments that are so perfect that you feel as though you’re watching them on a screen.

In a relationship a first kiss can be nerve wracking, you’re embarrassed yet eager to kiss this person you’re beginning to like. Kissing them for the first time is scary, you don’t know where hands should go or the rhythm of that person yet. You want them to want to kiss you again, but you don’t feel the need to show off in a first kiss. These strangers were only going to make out once…I mean for this video anyway. So of course they wanted the other person to walk away thinking, damn that person can really kiss. In the film above, I feel as though the goal was to impress not only the person they were kissing but also whoever ended up watching the video.

That’s all I wanted to share in this entry. Oh, and I’m sure if you’ve seen this video then you’ve probably seen a parody or two that follows it. Some made me laugh, some were a little too much. But what’s your opinion of the video, or first kisses in general? Until next time…

Une Soirée de Musique

Spring break doesn’t start until Monday but it’s now the weekend so I am officially on break! Aside from having to work still…and study. :/

new-friendsSo Thursday I had the chance to hang out with Cloudy Chase again, she and I had made plans to go to this event at a bar called Mongoose vs Cobra. But thanks to some lovely unforeseen changes we ate dinner at my place, made by my sister Kat, and then went out for some crepes at Sweet Pairs. I had such a wonderful time, and can’t wait to do it again. :3  Continuing on with the rest of the week, yesterday I went to a free concert at Discovery Green with the Boyfriend and his roommate. We arrived a bit late, but we managed to hear and see a bit, unfortunately the night ended on a sad note.It started off great, we listened to the last set of the French band La Femme, they were actually pretty good, and I bought macaroons for us. There were a few tents up that hosted different French cuisine. Sweet Pairs was there, which is where Kat works so that’s how I found out about the event. Those tasty macaroons are so expensive yet so yummy. Unfortunately when I was trying to share mine with the bf I ended up dropping them both. -.- I’m such a klutz, all we could do was laugh it off. They were from a place called Bite Macarons, a shop located here in Houston. I didn’t even take any pictures, bad blogger! >.< I was in such a hurry to eat them, I bought a chocolate, vanilla and a black currant. Mine was the chocolate and a dog ended up eating the piece that fell. I felt horrible, what if the dog got sick because of my clumsiness? I worried about the ewok dog for the rest of the evening.  The bf kept reassuring me that he would be fine, I told the owner I saw his dog eat something, just wasn’t sure what it was. >.< Hope he’s ok, dogs can get really sick if they consume chocolate. Went there for some cultured fun, ended up trying to poison someone’s dog. Moving on, after the concert we went out to eat at BB’s Cafe, I’m extremely picky when it comes to seafood. I only trust, my dad’s cooking. So once in front of the menu I was really scared, there weren’t any safe options. I sided with chicken tenders from the kids menus, it was already late and I know my stomach, it would have not ended well. On our way home, bf’s roommate got a call, his mother had an accident. It was a horrible way to end such a fun night and I hope his mother is doing well, I have yet to receive any news.

I’m off to finish up some Bio homework, enjoy your weekend. Here’s the full album of La Femme, give it a listen and let me know what you think. :3 Until next time….À bientôt!

Pop Shop

So as I mentioned in my last post, I went with the weirdos to a craft event that is held here in Houston and hosted by Pop Shop Houston America. This was a mini version of a large event that happens I think twice a year? I could be mistaken so don’t quote me. I was pretty excited to go and see what each vendor had to offer. Plus, just being around creative people is inspiring and motivating.

The first thing we saw were painted plates and cards then several tents that had vintage clothing. We moved on towards the booths that had jewelery but I stopped and noticed a woman sitting at a typewriter with the sign Poems for Sale Barter or Trade. So I traded her a marker that I had in my bag and gave her the topic of motivation. I wanted something to remind me when I need an extra push of motivation. Next time I’ll ask for one that’s about positivity. She began typing away, the look on her face while she was typing was complete focus. You could see her pull out words from nowhere and somehow create this well thought of poem. I could never write something like that on the spot. Her name is Traci Lavois and you can find her over here. After receiving my poem we walked on over to this table in the corner. IMG_20140209_165654On the table were different types of jewelery…rings, bracelets, and necklaces. I was in awe. They were amazing, and there were something for every type of movie addict, gamer, and music fan in the world. AND….he does custom orders. You can find his work over here. These are great as gifts, because even if he doesn’t have something you’re looking for, just email him and send him a design you’re interested in. He does plaques too, so we’re hoping to request one for father’s day. And I wasn’t sure which one to get the boyfriend, but since he bikes and bought me a bike for my birthday, (I never mentioned that did I? >.< Well, he did.) I thought getting him the bike one was the best choice. Maybe next time, provided Yamin is there, the bf can pick one he likes more. Because frankly, it’s not like you could own too much. We also want to request Mind-Speak key chains for the three of us. Just something to inspire us to continuing working on MS. So there were tons that I wanted while browsing, however I had only enough cash on me to purchase two and my goal was to buy one for the bf and for Kat, as a Valentine gift. So I bought the bike and a Dr. Who one for the little weirdo. There were so many Star Wars ones, but I couldn’t buy it. So I went on browsing and when I rejoined the married weirdos, Jody told me that the AT-AT was gone. While I was bummed he had put it around my neck. The sneaky Jobro bought it for me along with a mushroom bracelet for himself. Then we went halfsies and bought Mija a Day of The Dead skull. Great purchases and totally want more. The craft fair was wonderful, and I can’t wait to attend a larger scale one that is coming up in May, but until then there is another mini one coming up in March so I have that to look forward to.

Any craft fairs in your town/city? If you’re not sure, try looking it up…you’d be surprised what gems you might find. Houston continues to amaze me, I really enjoy living here. 🙂 That’s all for now, until next time.

Tea for You

I had myself a wonderful Valentine weekend and I hope yours was just as wonderful.

plannerweekvalentine

I seem to be filling my planner with more things than just my weekly plans. This is how this past week turned out, with Friday being Valentine’s I had a busy weekend. First off, I worked on Friday so I had to rush home and shower so I could be ready for The Boyfriend. We just stayed in and watched movies and ate sweets. For Valentine’s I made him heart shaped teabags, because he’s a tea fanatic. I also gave him a bike necklace that I bought at Houston Mini Pop Shop. I’ll post about that sometime soon.  And once again, I’m respecting his wishes to not be uploaded to the internet. So his face remains covered. Saturday we met up and went out to eat, we went off in search of discount candy. He bought me some washi tape and scrapbook paper, he’s adorable. We also went bike riding on our quest for cheap candy. He bought me peanut m&m’s, which are my favorite. I made him watch the romantic comedy About Time, an adorable movie btw. I love that he humors me and watches all these girlie movies but I promised him the next time we will watch a thriller or an action movie. XD This is the first time I’ve ever been in a relationship on Valentine’s and it was nice but I’ve always thought the holiday was nice. I don’t think valentinejarthere should just be one day devoted to showing how much you love someone. Family, friends…ect. You should try to show that love every day in some way, it doesn’t have to be in some extravagant way but something as simple as a phone call or a letter can make someone feel good. But I really wanted to take part in the cheesy aspect of this holiday. So instead of giving sweets I went with the heart tea bags. I love crafting, so I picked out different types of teas and deconstructed them and created heart shape bags for the tea leaves. When I gave it to him, he was surprised and seemed to have really liked it. He wanted a cup of tea right then and there. He loves handmade gifts…at least that’s what he’s told me. >.< I also knitted him a heart, because frankly I adore knitting them and it was the perfect decoration for the jar. The necklace was made by an artist I met at Houston Mini Pop Shop. Again, I will mention more about that event in my next post. But just know he is amazing!

This was an amazing weekend, but now I return to work and homework and my feet are killing me. >.<  Today’s song is most fitting…A Day with You by Daniela Andrade [audio:http://numb.honey-vanity.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/ADayWithYou-DanielaAndradeMusic.mp3]

{Mind} -Updates

Some of you might not know this, but my sister’s and I share a craft blog, Mind-Speaks, that we “try” to update monthly. We fell behind on updating towards the end of 2013 but hopefully we can start updating it again. Mija gave the site a facelift to make it look more professional this year. I absolutely adore it.

mindspeakslay
We hope to open our Etsy store as well, here’s a list of things we plan on selling.

The product list is still being decided but so far this is what we are thinking of making and selling for our store. I’m on a quest to find pleather so that I can make assorted clutches. I’ve never used pleather or any other imitation leather before so I’m hoping I can start that soon.  Also this Sunday my sisters and I plan on attending Mini Pop Shop that is hosted here in Houston. If you’re in the Houston area and love DIY/crafty things then this is the event for you. We plan to scope it out and then hopefully sell some of our own products at a future Pop event. :3 I love that things like this exist in my city, every time I tried to go to a previous one it was either cancelled due to weather or something else came up. So I’m hoping Sunday will be the day I can finally go to one. There’s also one on March 9th in case you can’t make it to this one. If you’re not from the area, then you should look up craft fairs in your own city, you could expose yourself to something new and different, maybe even meet new people and create new friendships.

Her~Film Reivew

So I should start of this review and mention how there might be spoilers, I mean they just might slip out as I share my opinion of this film. So this is me warning you, if you dislike spoilers…DO NOT read on. Here’s the trailer of Her, in case you missed it.

This film is set sometime in the future, not too far from our own. The protagonist, Theodore, played by Phoenix is a lonely man- not a hermit or an introvert that prefers staying locked away. He’s heartbroken due to his not exactly recent separation from his wife. So his introvert attitude is something he acquired after his separation. Which makes sense, you don’t necessarily want to be around other people when you’re feeling sad.herfilm People handle pain differently, and he pulled away from others. In one of the comedic/ awkward sex scenes, Theo enters a chat room where he is connected to a woman of his choice. They begin a sex phone session, after flirting a bit. I say it is awkward because of the moaning and groaning that happens. But a point that is brought up more than once is the fact that he wanted attention yet turned to a less physical form of it. Which is why I think he turns to his OS later on in the movie. Theodore works for a company called Beautifully Handwritten Letters. He is paid to write meaningful letters for any occasion. He deals with emotions every day yet passes them off as belonging to others. Not something I think everyone could accomplish. The technology in this movie doesn’t seem too far off from what we use. Computers, cell phones, ear pieces which everyone seems to own.  They connect to their “cell phones” along with a “Seri” type voice….that is until he upgrades to his own personal (Scarlett Johansson) OS. These are somehow personalized due to a set of questions you answer in the initializing phase. He chooses his to have a female voice, which of course he would, I mean he’s suffering from loneliness. So a female voice would be most comforting to him.
