Tea for You

I had myself a wonderful Valentine weekend and I hope yours was just as wonderful.

plannerweekvalentine

I seem to be filling my planner with more things than just my weekly plans. This is how this past week turned out, with Friday being Valentine’s I had a busy weekend. First off, I worked on Friday so I had to rush home and shower so I could be ready for The Boyfriend. We just stayed in and watched movies and ate sweets. For Valentine’s I made him heart shaped teabags, because he’s a tea fanatic. I also gave him a bike necklace that I bought at Houston Mini Pop Shop. I’ll post about that sometime soon.  And once again, I’m respecting his wishes to not be uploaded to the internet. So his face remains covered. Saturday we met up and went out to eat, we went off in search of discount candy. He bought me some washi tape and scrapbook paper, he’s adorable. We also went bike riding on our quest for cheap candy. He bought me peanut m&m’s, which are my favorite. I made him watch the romantic comedy About Time, an adorable movie btw. I love that he humors me and watches all these girlie movies but I promised him the next time we will watch a thriller or an action movie. XD This is the first time I’ve ever been in a relationship on Valentine’s and it was nice but I’ve always thought the holiday was nice. I don’t think valentinejarthere should just be one day devoted to showing how much you love someone. Family, friends…ect. You should try to show that love every day in some way, it doesn’t have to be in some extravagant way but something as simple as a phone call or a letter can make someone feel good. But I really wanted to take part in the cheesy aspect of this holiday. So instead of giving sweets I went with the heart tea bags. I love crafting, so I picked out different types of teas and deconstructed them and created heart shape bags for the tea leaves. When I gave it to him, he was surprised and seemed to have really liked it. He wanted a cup of tea right then and there. He loves handmade gifts…at least that’s what he’s told me. >.< I also knitted him a heart, because frankly I adore knitting them and it was the perfect decoration for the jar. The necklace was made by an artist I met at Houston Mini Pop Shop. Again, I will mention more about that event in my next post. But just know he is amazing!

This was an amazing weekend, but now I return to work and homework and my feet are killing me. >.<  Today’s song is most fitting…A Day with You by Daniela Andrade [audio:http://numb.honey-vanity.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/ADayWithYou-DanielaAndradeMusic.mp3]

{Mind} -Updates

Some of you might not know this, but my sister’s and I share a craft blog, Mind-Speaks, that we “try” to update monthly. We fell behind on updating towards the end of 2013 but hopefully we can start updating it again. Mija gave the site a facelift to make it look more professional this year. I absolutely adore it.

mindspeakslay
We hope to open our Etsy store as well, here’s a list of things we plan on selling.

The product list is still being decided but so far this is what we are thinking of making and selling for our store. I’m on a quest to find pleather so that I can make assorted clutches. I’ve never used pleather or any other imitation leather before so I’m hoping I can start that soon.  Also this Sunday my sisters and I plan on attending Mini Pop Shop that is hosted here in Houston. If you’re in the Houston area and love DIY/crafty things then this is the event for you. We plan to scope it out and then hopefully sell some of our own products at a future Pop event. :3 I love that things like this exist in my city, every time I tried to go to a previous one it was either cancelled due to weather or something else came up. So I’m hoping Sunday will be the day I can finally go to one. There’s also one on March 9th in case you can’t make it to this one. If you’re not from the area, then you should look up craft fairs in your own city, you could expose yourself to something new and different, maybe even meet new people and create new friendships.

Get Organized!

I recently purchased a planner for 2014 as an attempt to be more organized. I mean, I don’t usually have trouble remembering deadlines or anything and I just used the calendar on my cell to remind me. But this year I wanted to return to having a written planner. And I found the best one ever! It’s a moleskine planner with Vader on the cover. It was the only  one at Barnes&Noble so I took it as fate.

How perfect is this planner? A planner to match my pocket Star Wars notebook, the Moleskine site doesn’t seem to offerplanner14 the Vader planner online, but they have other ones if you’re interested. Zie Darling always posts pictures of her planner, and I love how colorful it is. I always wish I was an artists so I could doodle cute drawings everywhere. And looking at her pictures makes me want to go shopping for post-its and washi tape. Or just office supplies in general.  I also wanted to buy a planner for my boyfriend as a birthday present. I wasn’t going to mention him, but now I feel it is safe to do so. Yes, I’m dating again. I don’t intend to go into too much depth, but I’ll share a few things here and there. Like, his birthday weekend. XD He came over Saturday and we watched movies, I bought him cheesecake which he made the mistake of leaving what’s left (it is now all gone) of it at my place. :9Then Sunday we went bike riding all over the place, it was exhausting yet so much fun. We went to the UH campus for my McAlister’s meeting and then from there we went to Les Givral’s Kahve. FYI: He doesn’t like having his picture taken nor does he want it uploaded to the internet. So for now this is all I will post. It was a lot of fun spending this past weekend with him, even though I was sore from using muscles I didn’t even know existed, bike riding is so much fun. It always was when I was little, but now that I can do it as an adult it makes me even more happy. Even though it is a hassle to bring my bike down the stairs and back up when I come home, when I go bike riding with him those little hassles don’t seem to matter,  I live in a second floor apartment and I keep my bike on the balcony to get it out of the way. Eventually I hope to be able to lift my bike without any problems. But until then, I will have to look like a weakling whenever I try to get it on/off the bus. >.<

jacketigor

This other picture is after we went to see the movie Her, it was a cold night and he was a gentleman and gave me his extra jacket to wear under my coat. I forgot to return it to him before we parted ways that night so I held it hostage until the next time we saw each other. Super comfy jacket, may have even slept in it. >.< Anyway, so I had a great weekend, ended it with a family dinner. Kat and I don’t get to see our parent’s/the weirdos too often so when we do it’s always nice.

So do you just use your cell calendar to keep yourself organized, or do you prefer actually using a planner? If you do, then do you have a particular planner layout you like, or am I the only one who is picky? XD That’s it for now, I’ll update again soon.

Thanks for reading and commenting. 🙂

Welcome Home

So we moved into our apartment and I couldn’t be happier, I’ve also have been working at the restaurant on campus for the past month. I’m pretty exhausted and sore after work, which is why I haven’t been updating at all. Every time I sat down to type an entry out, homework or sleep keep getting in the way.  I’m gonna try to get back to my normal updating again.

So living in my own apartment has been wonderful, thanks to my mom, Kat and I have managed to decorate doorit to our liking and it has started feeling like a home. I’ll post a video tour sometime soon, that requires good lightening and time.  All of which is scarce during the week.  I want to get a book shelf for the living room, this desk, and a dresser for our bedroom that have at least 4 drawers so Kat and I each get two drawers, but three would be ok as well. Probably paint the dresser and shelf yellow. Our colors are teal and yellow, our mom bought us this cabinet to put our tv on top of and that was what decided our color scheme. Love it. We put our dvds and Xbox games inside of it.  Again, I’ll post a video tour of it soon. >.<

So my birthday was this month, and I turned 24 on the 11th. All of my co workers, who are younger than me, seem to find it bizarre. They all share this look of utter amazement when I share my age with them and they all say how they thought I was 18 and just out of high school. A compliment I guess, but not right after my 22 year old co recordplayerworker says how she feels SO old. -.- I wasn’t aware that 22 was old, hate to think what that makes 24. Well, I had some gifts to ease the pain of being old. 😛 My parents bought me a record player and it is just adorable! I had a few vinyl albums, but never thought about owning my own record player. Bro in law had one and seeing as how I lived with my sister and him for the past three years, I never needed my own. Now, yes, how very hipster of me. But I’ll have you know that I always found vinyl interesting back before today’s hipsters existed.  My sister started a vinyl collection when she got into high school. She’s a music trivia know-it-all, but now I can actually build my own collection she bought me my favorite Fleetwood Mac album when I turned 18, so now I can actually listen to it. Which I might over do it. This year she bought me a more practical gift. A heavy duty umbrella, no picture, but it’s green and black. I was in desperate need of an umbrella that worked, so thankful to have it. I was also given a bike.

bike

I haven’t rode a bike since I was in junior high? I thought maybe I wouldn’t remember how to, but good thing for muscle memory. I’m excited to get more confident at riding it though, I plan on using it on campus, and to Rice Village. I forgot how much fun riding a bike was and it was so nostalgic to ride one again. Plus I also want to add rear baskets like this to the back of it so I can carry my stuff with me on campus. How cool are they, they fold in when you aren’t using them. Had to adjust the seat all the way down in order to ride it though, my legs are just really short and this bike is huge. >.< But I love it.

Here’s an instagram video of me using the record player for the first time. If you don’t recognize the song, it’s You make Loving Fun by Fleetwood Mac.

Until next time…thanks for reading and Commenting.

Video Contest!

So She&Him are holding a video dance contest and I’m thinking of entering, not even to win. It just seems like a fun thing to do. I already have ideas, whether it will come out the way I want it to is probably unlikely but I really like the song and the music video is pretty cute. So why not? XD

dancecontest

Kat and I plan on filming it either tomorrow or on Saturday, the contest ends on the 28th so I’m hoping the weather cooperates with us and it at least comes out a bit decent. We shall see. If you plan on entering, let me know. I would love to see how your own video turns out. Now, I have no dancing skills whatsoever so this might turn out to be a disaster but I still think it will be something fun to do. You have to use the original video as a reference when creating your own, so I’m excited to just mash something up together. Well, I hope to do this, my laziness and lack of video editing and dancing skills my also prevent me from doing this.

I know I haven’t updated at all. I’ve just been in a funk, I haven’t had any motivation to do anything remotely creative, hence the want to attempt making a video for this contest. I’ve also been wanting to knit and sew something but I just haven’t done anything. I still have other entries to post and I just keep letting them sit here. I’ve promised myself to start updating regularly again. So here I go. ^.^

Question, has anyone ever entered a video contest before? Or any contest for that matter? I’d like to hear about it.

Macaroons/Macaron

I don’t know why, but I’m in a bit of a blogging lag. I guess finals left me feeling a bit lazy and not wanting to work on my computer. Good news is I passed all of my classes, now just have to keep moving forward. This summer I’m taking statistics and a Spanish class. I’m a bit scared, not sure how this will turn out.

So I’ve been planning on visiting a shop that sells macaroons for awhile now. And last week I finally got around to trying this shop. So cute, but they didn’t have all of the flavors that I wanted to try. But that just means I can go again and again until they do.  I updated awhile back about trying to make these little boogers. So tricky, but they still came out rather yummy. My sister made ours with a jelly glaze filling. The ones we tried at the store had a cream filling. It’s not something I will eat often, but every once in a while they will make for a nice treat. I think buying tiramisu is a lot more satisfying.

So the flavors I tried were:
Chocolate
Chocolate Hazelnut
Blueberry
Pistachio
Cookies and Cream
Chocolate Raspberry

Inspiraton

So today was the Houston Indie Book Fest and I couldn’t be more excited. This is my favorite event that happens every April here in Houston, it is the reason I discovered my love for the literary world. Well…for the publishing world.

indiebookfest

I had a blast! I worked the CLMP table from 1 to 5, it was so much fun but I came home exhausted. I immediately passed out and didn’t wake up until 10:30. After being surrounded by so much fiction and writers I actually find myself being inspired. So I’ll start writing my story for workshop on Thursday. I just wish the weekend was longer. >.<

I only bought two things, I’ve been planning on buying hard copies of this journal for THE longest time and I finally did today. The First Line has to be one of my favorite literary journals. I keep wanting to submit a story to them but I always miss out on the lines that I want. The line for may is...”I started collecting secrets when I was just six years old.” And submissions are due May 1st. I didn’t even get to really look around the Festival too much because I was already so tired. But I got what I wanted to buy and I had fun manning the table. I’m definitely going to start my story after I post this blog entry. My sister went around and filmed the festival so I plan on making a small video so you can see how awesome it was. Also, I had a surprised visit from my dancing partner, Julian, mentioned in this entry. It was nice catching up with him and he even stayed awhile to help me sell books. You’ll see in the video I post below. It was nice seeing him, it’s been awhile. Anyway, so I’ve just been craving some time to just create something. Be it writing, knitting, sewing, or even filming a vlog about something. There are several vlogs I want to make. Like about products I use, or an outfit of the day, especially this Houston series I desperately want to start. Which would  basically be a vlog where I introduce my favorite shops and restaurants that make me love living in Houston.

Shopping Hard Ons

So I don’t go shopping very often, and if I do that usually involves crafting supplies…or books. Which is fantastic because I enjoy those things…obviously.

But sometimes I wouldn’t mind shopping for girlie things such as shoes, clothes, and ….bags!  So this post is filled with wishful thinking. XD

You get the picture. I love purses, bags, clutches. I’m more of a messenger bag type girl but after I made myself a folded clutch I just consider myself a bag…girl. Not to be confused with the term bag lady. -.- I don’t mind any accessory but bags are my favorite. Now I usually use my Fred Perry bag for school. It’s black so it usually goes with most of my outfits. I found it about three years ago at Buffalo Exchange for a lucky 20 bucks. It was in great condition and these bags are pretty pricey if you buy them new. I would never be able to afford a designer bag if I didn’t find it at a thrift store. Any who, so this bag is wonderful, I usually keep it unzipped so it’s easier to pull things out but I’ve noticed that there have been some slight wear and tear areas. It makes me sad because I’m hoping this bag continues to last me. I love it.

Thursday Loves

And here are today’s 5 things I love! <3<3<3

  • New Girl- an upcoming tv series starring Zoey Deschanel, I love her

  • The Goblin King Jareth from the movie Labyrinth played by The gorgeous David Bowie. He is amazing as himself, but I really love this character.

  • Honeycomb book shelves- I find these shelves absolutely adorable and want some of my own.

  • Baileyblue dress- I needed a dress for my little sisters confirmation, so I went shopping for one and and had no luck in finding anything that I would be remotely comfortable in. Finally we went to JcPenny’s and I found this dress. However mine is gray and I wore it differently compared to the model in the picture. But I love it. The only thing its missing is pockets.

  • Long John donuts- :9 I WANT ONE NOW!!! The kind with the yellow custard not the white whipped cream kind.

Maybe I shouldn’t do food anymore on these things. Also I should start walking around the block from now on. Just looking at this picture can make you gain weight. >.<
