Last Minute Weekend Plans

So for several years, my sisters and I would go to conventions to see Japanese rock bands in concert. But as we got older we slowly stopped attending Oni-con. (08, 09, 10) So when my sister asked me to come with her to Anime Matsuri, I just kept remembering all the annoying things that went with going to conventions.

But I decided to tag along with her and Jody, the boyfriend was helping out a friend during the con so I got to hang out with him as well. He managed to get me in to the staff section of the cosplay contest, so that was interesting to see. I admire those that are capable of making their own costumes. And seeing how much they shine when they are portraying a favorite character is just nice. They looked so confident and happy showing off their creations. I finally got to wear my Alice March Hare costume that I had made for Halloween, but I still haven’t finished it. The hat and feet still need to be done, and I need a yellow vest and the jacket I made is too snug. We were also able to get in the front of the line for the (Nightmare) concert. But I was never able to make it all the way through a jrock concert, and the minute some idiots started to crowd surf I knew I wouldn’t be up front for long. Mija can withstand it, she’s always been capable of that. Luckily in this venue, there were stands we could sit in, I’m more of a laid back concert goer…aka old. My feet were hurting. >.< The boyfriend and brother-law found me and sat with me when they were taking pictures. Going to an event such as this with awesome people makes it so much more enjoyable. My favorite thing was having pictures of the bf and I taken in secret, Mija managed to snap a few and the bf’s friend took a “candid” one for us as well. I’m hoping to get my hands on a copy of those soon. This was the first time Mija and Jody would meet Igor, I originally wanted them to me in a more formal way. We’d go out to eat and they’d meet him like that, but seeing as he was there and they were there I couldn’t very well let them walk away without introducing him to them. And I think it worked out for the better, he wasn’t as shy as totorohe usually is so the environment made it easier for him to be himself. So I’m happy they finally had the chance to meet him, and later on I hope the four of us can make time to go out to eat or something. (HINT HINT Mija!!!) I’ve been wanting a huge Totoro plushie for awhile now, but they are just so pricy and I would have felt bad spending a lot of money on a stuffed animal…even though he’s just so cute. Mija picked this one up for Kat and Me for 20 bucks. He’s a puppet, isn’t he adorable?! Too cute, one day I hope to get a giant one though…one day. So Sunday was the last day of the con, we had planned to go but when the bf got to my place super early he noticed he had misplaced his tag to get in. -.- He definitely was not pleased, so due to that and rain we decided to spend Sunday at my place. It started off by taking a nap. It was wonderful, we eat had a couch to ourselves and just stretched out and slept. Conventions are exhausting, and I only went to one day. After sleeping for like 5 hours or so we woke up and I attempted cooking chicken again, he did the dishes while I prepared the chicken. How freaking cute is that?! The chicken might have been over cooked a bit, but still edible…for me anyway. He didn’t seem to mind, but he could have eaten it for my sake. >.< I’ll get better at it. I also made another green bean casserole, not sure if he liked that either but he said it was good. While we ate, I had him watch Ruby Sparks, which if you haven’t seen that movie then you must. It’s a great play on the manic pixie dream girl trope, and I wish it was also a novel. We watched another movie and then sadly he had to catch his bus back to his place. The weekend was wonderful and I hate that it had to end, but ready for a great week.

Oh Happy St. Paddy’s Day, I didn’t really think about it when I got ready this morning. My belt and boots are an olive green so that counts, right? XD I’m craving donuts again, so I might just scurry on over to Shipelys for some studying fuel….or hope the wife does it for me. XD

A Delightful Day

Today was my off day, I had planned to go out grocery shopping and actually buy some mailing envelopes so I could mail off some packages!!! >.< I’m such a bad penpal! I promise I’ll get it done on Friday, that’s my next day off. But instead I spent this lovely day taking pictures and eating delectable sweets with Kat.

She had been wanting me to go with her to visit this dessert shop called, Dolce Delights, and since I had mentioned macarons in my last post I was in the mood to try some more. I love seeing/tasting the different flavors that each shop makes. They are definitely tricky to make, Kat and I tried awhile back to make them, hopefully we try again. Anyway, these macarons were $1.75 I believe, and that’s the cheapest I’ve seen here in Houston. So I went a little crazy and bought 7…plus a vanilla frappe. >.< So I indulged a little, it was totally worth it. I think my favorite was either the chocolate mint or the strawberry. They were all very yummy and I hope to try more flavors next time I go. It’s not something I can do very often, but I plan on going again. Today was really windy, but it felt amazing outside. It was absolutely gorgeous I hope this weekend is just a nice. I still need tdolceo go grocery shopping and would love it if it didn’t rain. Anyway, continuing on with my day, after eating sweets Kat and I went to High Fashion Fabrics and I found some pleather. I’ve been wanting to buy some and make some folded clutches with them. But the pleather there ranged from 14.99 to 22 bucks, so sadly I will have to wait a bit until I can practice making things. I got some extra hours this spring break so hopefully I can use some of that money for Mind-Speak things. The fabric store had a lot of nice fabric but we didn’t stay very long, I only wanted to see if they stocked pleather and didn’t want to get distracted by other things. But I plan on making some cute pleated aprons for my sisters and me. I want to try embroidering names or the word Mind-Speaks on it. I also want to try some picture transfers to fabric instead of buying iron on sheets. So need to research some fabric transfer tutorials.

I couldn’t decide which pictures to share in this entry, Kat and I took a lot….and I mean A LOT today. I also shared today’s outfit on the modcloth style gallery. The other look got 103 likes. >.< I love styling my outfits, and I’ve styled this one before, but tried something different this time. Layered it with my salmon? Coralish cardigan this time instead of my cream quarter sleeved one. And this belt is my new favorite accessory, it goes with most of my dresses since I wear a lot of cream and mint. That’s all for now…until next time.

Thanks for reading and commenting. :3

Hey {You} There

So I was planning on typing out a rant entry, but then I thought I should instead update with a more positive entry. So I trashed the other one, took a couple ootd photos and then started cooking chicken. Submitted today’s outfit to Modcloth’s Style Gallery.

So some good things happened today, my Bio test was pushed back two weeks! Thank goodness for that, now I can study for anotheroutfit3-3-14 test that I have on Thursday. But naturally I avoid studying and instead catch up on updating the blog. >.< I can’t help it, it had to be deleted over the weekend because something was causing it to glitch. Thankfully, Mija was able to bring it back to life and now I can update it again. Kat is spending the night with the weirdos so I had the place to myself. I totally forgot she wouldn’t be here so I attempted to cook dinner thinking she’d be home to make sure it was ok. It turned out pretty yummy for my first time cooking chicken. I was worried about not cooking it long enough. But I managed on my own and it feels good. Yay for becoming slightly more independent! That means, there is hope that my possible future children won’t be stuck with a mom who can only cook them different types of eggs.  I’ll leave dessert to Kat. So on Sunday, the boyfriend and I spent the day looking for a gift for his younger sister. She’s 5 or 6, he doesn’t get to spend lot of time with her so he wasn’t quite sure what she would like. We stood in the toy section at Target and he said, “I don’t want to buy her a gender specific toy. All this pink stuff, she will already have society telling her what toys a little girl should want to play with. She has enough dolls and such and I would like to give her something educational.” I thought that was nice, nothing gender specific. I mean, I liked playing with dolls as a child, but I also enjoyed playing with action figures and video games. We then went to the book section and browsed for awhile, he then noticed the film Coraline, I had him watch it a couple months ago and he really liked it. I told him about the book and how Neil Gaiman was one of my favorite authors. He then thought about getting both the film and novel. I thought it was such a great idea, start her young and show her that she should read the bakedchickennovel before watching the film adaption of a novel. However, we could not find a copy of Coraline, which sucks because I still think it’s such a cute gift idea. Plus I didn’t think he liked the movie that much, but I’m glad he did. Well anyway, even though we knew it was going to rain we biked all the way from my apartment to Target and then to Rice Village. I didn’t want to get stuck in the rain with my bike, but he’s all about not wanting to waste time getting somewhere. It was hot and really humid that day but after we spent some time at Half Price we went to Jason’s Deli and by the time we got out it was already 6 something and it was freezing outside. I did not bring a jacket, because like I said it was hot, but he did the boyfriend thing and gave me his jacket to wear. We then decided to wait for a bus, however the bus we needed to get home does not run on Sundays. So we had to catch one to the Med Center and then a bus from there to get to my apartment. I felt bad that he was walking around without a jacket, luckily we made it to my apartment. We agreed to not venture out on a rainy day again…unless we both had jackets and umbrellas. Silly boys.

I’d like to direct your attention to my sidebar, specifically the links under Blogger Friends. I made a new friend, and she blogs!!!! She’s so adorable and we have a lot of things in common. One being that we go to the same school, I found her on instagram. Hope that doesn’t make me weird. >.< Her name is Melissa aka Cloudy Chase. We met up last week and are hoping to make plans during spring break when we have more time. Her work schedule is opposite from mine, so meeting up during the week isn’t exactly easy. I’ve always found it difficult to make friends with chicks. Aside from my sisters I only have two chicks that have been my friends since high school. But so far I have yet to make any lasting college friends. So here’s to making new friends and attempting to cook more dishes!!! That’s all for now, until next time. 🙂

{Mind} -Updates

Some of you might not know this, but my sister’s and I share a craft blog, Mind-Speaks, that we “try” to update monthly. We fell behind on updating towards the end of 2013 but hopefully we can start updating it again. Mija gave the site a facelift to make it look more professional this year. I absolutely adore it.

We hope to open our Etsy store as well, here’s a list of things we plan on selling.

The product list is still being decided but so far this is what we are thinking of making and selling for our store. I’m on a quest to find pleather so that I can make assorted clutches. I’ve never used pleather or any other imitation leather before so I’m hoping I can start that soon.  Also this Sunday my sisters and I plan on attending Mini Pop Shop that is hosted here in Houston. If you’re in the Houston area and love DIY/crafty things then this is the event for you. We plan to scope it out and then hopefully sell some of our own products at a future Pop event. :3 I love that things like this exist in my city, every time I tried to go to a previous one it was either cancelled due to weather or something else came up. So I’m hoping Sunday will be the day I can finally go to one. There’s also one on March 9th in case you can’t make it to this one. If you’re not from the area, then you should look up craft fairs in your own city, you could expose yourself to something new and different, maybe even meet new people and create new friendships.

Late But Lucky Halloween

So my plans for Halloween changed, instead of going to the renaissance I went to this fun Nintendo event that a group called Lazy Bit Collective hosted at a bar.

It was a lot of fun, I only wish my Halloween costume was completed so I could have worn it. There was a girl there that wore the original Alice Madness dress and her boyfriend was the Cheshire cat. I wanted my date to dress up as the white rabbit, but he had other ideas.  XD  Anyway, so that was on the 26th, for actual Halloween we just watched movies and ate a bunch of junk food. Oh, and played a bit of SlenderMan, I’m terrible at it.

So now on to the costume! I didn’t finish a few of the accessories, but I worked really hard on the skirt and I’m beyond proud of it. Seeing as I didn’t get to wear it out this year, I plan on doing so next year. I plan on actually putting the ears on the hat and getting rabbit feet to put over my shoes.  Seeing other recreations of the outfit was helpful latebutluckyhalloweenwhen making mine. I plan on finding/making a yellow vest, and then again adding the ears to the hat. I ran out of time and wanted to actually find a stuffed animal that I could deconstruct and use it’s ears rather than make mine out of felt, and also add the feet to my bow in the back. I made my tail out of yarn and didn’t have time to make the rabbit feet that dangle down. Along with possibly making the necklace that Alice wears in the game. Besides those things, I’m pretty proud with out the outfit itself came out. The jacket was a bit snug, but I didn’t have a pattern and I’ve never made anything like this before so I’m still proud. All things considered it came out great with the limited time I had. This was also the first time I made a circle skirt and I plan on making more because this one came out just great.

I was bummed I couldn’t wear this out, but at work I did get to wear a costume. I wanted to wear this one, but it rained so bad that day and I work at a restaurant and I didn’t want to ruin the outfit I worked so hard to make. So I wore the Red Riding Hood costume I made three years ago.  I didn’t really work very hard on that one so I didn’t mind if it got ruined. Which the rain made my skirt bleed through the apron and it stained it pink a bit. One of my co workers dressed up as a wolf, so I thought it was pretty funny. My manager took a picture of us posing, so I’m hoping I can get a copy of it on Monday.

I had a lot of fun making this Alice costume, so I wouldn’t mind wearing it next year, but if I find something else I want to recreate, then I plan on starting a lot sooner. XD So, what did you do for Halloween? Or if you don’t celebrate, what are some of your favorite scary movies?

Thanks for reading and commenting.

I don’t know why, but I’m in a bit of a blogging lag. I guess finals left me feeling a bit lazy and not wanting to work on my computer. Good news is I passed all of my classes, now just have to keep moving forward. This summer I’m taking statistics and a Spanish class. I’m a bit scared, not sure how this will turn out.

So I’ve been planning on visiting a shop that sells macaroons for awhile now. And last week I finally got around to trying this shop. So cute, but they didn’t have all of the flavors that I wanted to try. But that just means I can go again and again until they do.  I updated awhile back about trying to make these little boogers. So tricky, but they still came out rather yummy. My sister made ours with a jelly glaze filling. The ones we tried at the store had a cream filling. It’s not something I will eat often, but every once in a while they will make for a nice treat. I think buying tiramisu is a lot more satisfying.

So the flavors I tried were:
Chocolate Hazelnut
Cookies and Cream
Chocolate Raspberry

BirthMonth- 23

As always, my birthday was a blast. I didn’t think there was any way to out do last year’s Star Wars exhibit. But boy was I wrong. I was born on September 11, 1989 at 3:something p.m. XD

My family completely surprised me this past weekend and came to Houston to take me out to dinner. They bought me balloons, donuts and peanut M&M’s. I wasn’t expecting anything and they just went above and beyond. I had no idea. One of the bigger surprises was the gift Jody and Mija bought me. Not only is Mija taking me to see the musical Beauty and the Beast but they bought us each a 3DS. I’m obsessed with my DSlite and never even thought of upgrading to the 3Ds, not until it became obsolete anyway. So this completely blew my mind. Jody got the new 3DSxl, and the screen is HUGE! My sister’s and I each got the first edition and I’m already obsessed with it.  We only have Mario Kart 7 but it is so freaking cool. I’m actually not a fan of the 3D feature, which I know defeats the main purpose of the upgrade. But that’s not the only cool new upgrade. I love the streetpass feature. I take it with me when I go to school and I usually pass someone with one on campus. I’ve only had four people, but that is pretty awesome. Of course now every time I pass someone I think to myself, I wonder who has a 3DS? I’m determined to get those puzzle pieces!! XD This month has just been amazing, so much has happened and is happening and I’m just loving every minute of every day. So this is what I wore, I actually really love this outfit and I’ve worn so many different variations of this outfit but I never get tired of it. I always feel confident when I wear it, so I thought this would be the perfect outfit to wear on my birthday. When I got home I ended my birthday with Mija and Jody. They bought me Potbelly and a cake and sang happy birthday to me. This year’s birthday was just surprise after surprise. It reminded me how lucky I am to have my family. They are just the best!

Tomorrow, (later today I mean) I’m going to a reading that is being held on campus. ZZ Packer will be one of the authors giving a reading. Apparently she is teaching on campus this semester. Had no idea. So I thought since I’m going through creative writing withdrawals I should attend as many reading events as I can. And this one is on campus and I’ll be there anyway so why not? It’s starts at 5:30 and my class ends at 5:15 so I should be able to go.  And then Thursday I’m having dinner with my friend Liz, I’m excited I haven’t seen her since May.

Well I hope everyone is having a great week. 😀

Thanks so much for reading.

First I want to share another giveaway!!! Again hosted by the wonderful Kellie Winnell. She is just so awesome.

Good luck to everyone who enters. But I’m really hoping to win this for Mija. XD

Ok now on to the update. So school has been going well so far. I’ve managed to stay caught up on all of my reading assignments. Hopefully I can keep it up. The books I’ve been reading for my lit classes have been pretty interesting. But that means that I have to put any other books that I’ve been wanting to read on hold until I find some time to read for fun. Also my birthday is this Tuesday (yes I was born on 9-11. If you have any annoying jokes about that then please keep them to yourself.) and I’m 23! I don’t have plans on the day but I have a bunch of other things planned for the rest of this month. There’s a reading on Wednesday at 5:30 (the 12th) that I might attend. It’s on campus so I thought since I’m there might as well check it out. The only problem with that is going home too late. I hate taking the bus when it’s dark but it might be ok. We shall see. Then I have the Junot Diaz reading on the 24th to attend, I cannot wait for that I’m excited to get my book signed by him. Then on the 26th I have my Birthday present, Mija is taking me to see Beauty and The Beast on Broadway. >.< So excited!!! Beauty and The Beast is my favorite Disney movie/fairy tale story so seeing it on stage is just beyond amazing.  And then maybe going to Poison Girl for a reading the day after that…not sure about that. I cannot wait until it starts getting colder. I’m tired of sweating buckets before I even get to the bus stop. I guess if I didn’t dress in so many layers I wouldn’t be having this problem. But I can’t help it. I like layers. The cutest outfits are in layers. Speaking of outfits I really need to start documenting my outfits again so I know which combination I’ve worn and on what day. Need to alternate. XD Sadly, there probably won’t be any cold weather until January. I’m totally not kidding. Ok maybe a little bit. But it usually takes forever for it to get cold. You would think after living in Texas for 23 years I would have accepted the weather by now. But no. I haven’t. I’ve been dying to wear my new blazer that Kat got me for my birthday.  I had no idea that she had gotten me a gift. She’s horrible at keeping things a surprise but then again I’m no better. >.<

Have any awesome plans this month or this year? :3 Also Mija’s wedding is next month! Can’t believe how fast time has gone by. >.< This wedding is going to be amazing. Song of the day Hold On by MoZella. I love it! [audio:|titles=HoldOn-MoZella]

Thanks for reading.

Backlog and Bandwagon?

I have so many blog drafts just waiting to be finished. But then I wait too long to publish it and something else happens. These are serious problems here. I mean really. -.-

This is the first time I actually have a summer vacation. My summer semester has ended so now I can relax before classes at UH start. Summer is going by super fast though and I’ve been having a blast. (Do people still say blast?) My mom is not ready to send me back to Houston just yet. The other day she told me that she’s not letting me go back until I absolutely have to. And I don’t start classes until the 27th of August? And since I have all of this time, all I have been doing is watching youtube videos, reading (a lot), sewing (nothing is coming out they way I want it to), and shopping. Now besides the normal vlogs I usually watch, I have actually started subscribing to a few channels that do the ever trendy outfit of the day/haul/monthly favorites videos. Some may see these types of videos as showing off. But I see these videos as being actually helpful. They show case new products from popular stores and they put you in a shopping mood. That might not always be a good thing though.  Anyway, now I don’t shop very often and I don’t wear make up but these videos make me want to be more feminine. Being female is awesome so I should embrace  that right? I’m not wanting to change who I am because I like being me. But I do think it would be fun to start doing a favorites blog entry/vlog every now and then. I used to update my blog with daily outfit posts, but I pretty much posted a picture of every outfit combination I have. Like I said I don’t shop very often and if I do it’s mostly books or fabric. But I’ve been buying a few items here and there this summer so I’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon and see how it goes. Editing takes a lot of time because my camera poops out a codex that premiere doesn’t seem to like. So editing is a complicated process that just makes me sleepy. But I’m going to try it anyway. We shall see what happens. The picture to the left is just some things that I didn’t mention in my haul video, oh and I’m starting to get the hang of styling my hair. If you watch the video below you will notice that I can now wear my bangs down. I’m happy!

What do you think of my first haul video? I’m still working on camera angles and I’m not an expert on video editing at all but I’ll work on it. :3 Is there certain types of videos you watch on youtube?

Bug Eyes

First I would like to thank everyone for the good advice. I really appreciate it and so far things are still progressing. I’m enjoying the getting-to-know-him phase. We have also planned our next date. We are going to the movies April 13th. The date may change but so far its sometime that weekend. 😀 So I’ll keep you updated with how things are going.

In other words I want to mention that my sister Mija has posted a design on threadless. So if you could be so kind and just head over there and vote on it I would really appreciate it. 😀 The are only 3 days left of voting. I really hope it gets made into a shirt. Thank you!!! So I just wanted to share some pictures that I haven’t posted it yet. I wanted to discuss the color mint. How freaking beautiful is that color? As you can tell I really love this mint cardigan I have. I pair with just about everything I own. I also love this color of nail polish. Unfortunately, my mint nail polish has gotten chunky and therefore can no longer be used. I really need to learn how to preserve nail polish. I feel as though they die so easily and I must be doing something wrong. We went shopping the day for Mija’s engagement party. I bought this dress, the top of the dress actually matches the top of the cranberry shirt in the first outfit picture. It was what drew me to the dress to begin with. I plan on pairing it with the mint cardigan and some yellow mustard tights and my favorite green boots. XD Hopefully it’s not too hot that day. If it is then maybe my blue ballet flats. I really hate that its not cold anymore. I loathe the heat seasons. I enjoy the winter so much more. The fashion is better, and my hair looks great most of the time. >.< In the summer however, my hair hates me it is way too hot and oh it is way too hot.  So I noticed the dress I bought right away. I picked it up and immediately rushed to the dressing room to try it on. It’s a tadbaggy in the boob area, but that is always the case with my in between imaginary sized body. :/ Anyway Kat  and Mija also bought dresses for the party. Mija had several in mind but finally decided on this one. Kat almost bought the exact same dress as I did, only in a different color, but then she noticed a different dress and changed her mind. I looked on the site for a picture of it but couldn’t find it. I’ll post pictures of us in our dresses next weekend. The party will be next Saturday, I’m excited. 😀 So after Kat and I decided on our dresses and stockings we decided to try on a bunch of different sunglasses . My face just doesn’t look good in sunglasses. Especially the jumbo bug eye ones. It was a great day.

What color are you obsessed with lately? I’m falling asleep as I type this out so I better get to bed. Next entry might be about The Hunger Games. Guess what? Finally watched the first film.
